Default Clutch Engagement Question

Gentlemen,

How far out are you bringing the clutch pedal (approx.) when it engages? I feel like clutch isnt engaging until later than normal - roughly half way out i'm guessing. I've driven many cars where the clutch engages right when you start pulling off the pedal. Just wanted to check with you guys because i'm curious.

thanks!

Ryan

My clutch engages about the mid-point of the distance that the clutch pedal travels.

my 996 is a tip, but my 03 Boxster's clutch grips right around mid point and has done so since it was new, so I guess thats how those Germans like them...

Really?

My car's engaged almost immediately (near the bottom) when I first got it, and stayed that way for 10k miles. Then I botched a launch, and now it engages mid-way up.

Justin

P.S - without threadjacking, how in god's name does one get a sig? I've looked over every inch of options in the UCP

Mine also engages quite quickly, I would say a 1/3 way up and since the clutch is new (<1000 miles) it's very smooth and precise, love it...

Justin,
To add a sig, you need to go to your "Private Messages" tab and in there you will find all the options you need.

Mine engages closer to the end of the travel (away from the floor). I'm guessing I'll need a clutch in a year. Its also difficult to determine the engagement point.
Anyone know if bleeding the system will help with the engagment feel?

Bleeding the system will only raise the engagement point of the clutch.

Mine is at midway, but after the clutch warms up, it feels like it engages higher. Normal?

Justin - the reason you didn't find a Sig option in your User CP is because you don't have that option. You must be a paying member to have a Sig. Why is that, you ask? Well, Sigs take up extra bandwidthand it costs $$$ for additional bandwidth. Membership is only $18 per year or $32 for two ears. Two year membership cost less than a tank of gas and lasts MUCH longer!

On my C2 Cab, clutch engages half way up. On my (previous) Boxsters, it was much closer to the floor.

I think you need to be a paying member to have a sig.

Back to the question at hand. I think the clutch engagement gets higher as it wears. Mine used to engage about halfway, but now it engages much lower down, after I had my clutch replaced.

What do you mean "Then I botched a launch, and now it engages mid-way up."?

Why would that change the engagement point?

Russ,

Well, because of what happened (let's just say I smelled clutch), my theory was that it had to do with the friction plate. Then again, I'm not very mechanically inclined, so... It was an afternoon I wish I could take back, either way. I assume that at some point down the road (it still has 50-70% life left), it'll be replaced and go back to engaging nearly at the bottom.. I look forward to that day.
