I dont know if you have an "AutoZone" (car parts store) where you live, but they
will scan for free.......wont reset it, though

Default K&N intake

Hello everyone.
This will be my first post , but I have been lurking in the back ground for some time.
I had just finished a conversation with a very reputable P mechanic, in reference to K&N.
He had mentioned that as a side effect of K&N, is that it will allow oil to build up (clog) a MAF sensor and trigger a CEL.

This might be an early warning signal, but worth examining further.

PS. I would think K&N had done testing of this set up prior to release,
MAF are pretty costly.

oh god... that "Knowledgable" P Mechanic obviously does not know much. the CEL that these guys are occuring immediately is not from the build up. This would take time and a enduser over oiling his filter. Really weird that all intakes use this same design and that is never the problem. Anytime a MAF goes bad from oil is not from the filter. Go read oiling instructions and information at www.knfilters.com. Get the facts.

Does not matter if it is a EVO, K&N, AEM, Injen or whatever. This is how they work.

Um, yes you need to scan it. Maintenance has nothing to do with it. You could have not tighten the gas cap all the way. You need to find out the code. You might have put the MAF in backwards. Several variables.

Vivid .. I agree.

Oiling or over oiling would cause the problem for air mass meter.
I did not mean to apply to K&N only.

I hope it makes makes gobs of power as I would surely purchase one myself.

As a side note suggestion, why not offer a second replacement air filter to allow the first one to "cure" properly.

Your right it. I'll buy a scan tool from pepboys. It's been bothering me anyway. I reset it last night and it did not come back.
