Has anyone seen the new K&N cold air intake? I first saw it in the latest performance catalog and now the new Panorama came out and there is an ad in there from a company for only $247.95 with free shipping.
The product looks good but is it just crap? Anyone seen it in person? The Evo seems to keep the filter to the right side where as the K&N places it more center. Any advantages or disadvantages? This is about half the cost of others. I appreciate anyones thoughts.

looks like th K&N is "closer" to the cold air duct than the EVO system... I think the K&N filter is also covered by a carbon fiber enclosure to dissipate heat more effectively.... has anybody tried it?

Dan,
older K&N CAI kits caused issues with MAF and/or O2 sensors - on many cars, not just Porsche - what's the current thinking on this batch?
Also - I note that this unit is 'pending CARB status' which means it's illegal in California for example, and you'd be unable to take a smog test with this unit fitted to the car.
New California regulations stop the smog test center from even looking at your car if you have a non-CARB approved CAI fitted.
I had exactly this issue recently with a K&N CAI, 4 hrs before I was due to sell my car!
Lucky for me I'd kept the stock parts - and was able to do a retro-fit in time!
Even when CARB certified (assuming it passes certification) - you'd then have to send off for your own official CARB decal for the CAI - which takes 4 weeks!! - before you could smog test your car - either for registration or when selling the car.
The actual sticker MUST be on the car - no point saying 'it's approved' - it doesn't fly!
Worth bearing in mind......
Chris.

Let me be clear, I am not looking for a "freeby". However, there was a volunteer on 6speed that was willing to install both and have them dyno'd independant of both EVO and Vivid. I'd love to see that test if you and EVO would provide a few "free" models.
What is your stand?

Very strange setup on the dyno. I have played around with dynoing a few cars and we always run with smoothing to 0. Setting it to 5 will generally yield a lower #, but if it is same on both, it shoudl be inconsiquential. Also, the pulls were done in 3rd gear. This is very strange. Dyno pulls should always be done at 1:1 which in our cars is 4th gear. Not sure what effect it would have on the pulls.
Vivid, I have an EVO intake in route (fedex seems to have misplaced it for now), if you want to work out a test, I will do back to back runs, stock vs K&N vs EVO. I have access to a local dyno.
