I was driving to work one day when this WRX comes screaming up on me, I'm like "Oh man I don't need this Sh*t now." Turns out it was my brother in law. We pulled up to the next light, not another car in sight, and then green. I thought his car would hold up a little bit but man when the rpm's reached 5K it was no contest. That so far has been my only experience with the 996 and 0-60 type pull. I really thought the wrx would have had more of a chance with all wheel drive and turbo spooling at 3k, but no our little 996's are deceiving, well, maybe not ; )

I've always wondered, do these rice rockets' engines last 100,000 miles plus (like P car/bimmer) or do they live fast/die young (engines, not drivers)?

Plenty of 100k Subarus around, and I remember reading that Honda had built a million VTEC engines without a warranty claim. I don't know how Nissans and Toyotas hold up over the long haul.

Saw a legacy the other day with 200K on it and running strong. A few timing belts a head gasket job, turns out if you take care of your technology it will take care of you.

Ran it into the back end of a big American boat at 100 mph last weekend and was killed instantly. I see way too many kids in those things who haven't learned how to have fun while respecting the laws of physics. God, I'm getting old.
I blame the twit who bought an 18 year old a 300+ hp car.

As a WRX owner (daily driver), it feels easier to drive fast than my 993, but far less rewarding (requires less skill). I enjoy driving it every day, but I'm already tired of it - bought it in Nov. '05. Every other ricer on the road wants to run me, the cops like to stop me, and insurance is high. I think I'm going to get an Audi A4.

The WRX forums are pathetic. Every other thread is titled "I wrecked my WRX today!" or "How can I make my WRX faster?" or "I tried to race a Porsche today but the puss wouldn't run me"

My $0.02.

If I'd done that with my wife in the car I'd probably be getting served divorce papers today.......

Well... she is definitely rubbing off on me on her driving style. I always try to use every opportunity while I am driving to explain to her what an apex is and how to dissect a turn before you get to it, and when to accelerate out of an turn...etc....Recently I noticed that she is aiming for all the apex of a turn and cornering at much higher speeds than before.....

One night she came home all pissed off, something about people that didn't know how to drive was driving too slow on a turns and forced her to miss her apex. I was telling myself, oh **** I created a monster....
