Hmmm, not sure Ubermensch. But I suppose your site is more trustworthy. I searched an online paint site, entering in the specs (porsche, 2002, etc), and they gave the 5W. I also double checked my car on that site, and they had it correct. So who knows.

My suggestion to Jason would be to try the 3A9 first, and if that isn't recognized or doesn't seem to match, to then go with the 5W.

It has to be one of the two.

Just to add more confusion the sticker on my '01 lapis blue says L3A8

Lapis Blue Metallic used paint code 3A9 for models up to and including MY02.
The code changed to M5W for MY03 and newer.

I see 3A8 is the water based version, is that true for all U.S. cars or did some tree hugging hippy paint mine?

My 2002 C4S is lapis blue and the paint code is 3A8.

As Loren stated, the Option sticker lists M5W as the color code for my 2004 Lapis Blue 996.

Yes, it changed in model year 2003 (as I stated above).
This information comes from both the Carrera Service manual (last updated in 2004) and the current Porsche parts list January 2008.
