Post Garage door opener solution!

Just wanted to share this. I've noticed that several folks have complained about the lack of a garage door opener in our cars. Not wanting to detract from Sharkey's marvelous hack, I have found that the tiny remote from kwikset.com (It has four buttons on it, one each for: front door dead bolt lock, front door bolt unlock, interior lights, and garage door opener. You have to train the remote to your garage door opener, but this is a snap. This little remote fits perfectly in the smokers tray, and does not have to be removed to activate it. Just flip up the smoker lid and voila! Sure beats putting an ugly contraption on the visor, and saves $. I purchased the entire dead bolt electronic device for $75.00, and it includes the remote. I am sure that you can buy the remote alone. fwiw.

Hmmm. Just read through the programming directions. It seems that the RECEIVER can be re-programmed to receive different transmitter signals, but that the TRANSMITTER is NOT programmable. That means you have to buy the transmitter AND the receiver.

I use the Genie Intellicode 2 buttton mini transmitter($24.99).Very small. If your door opener is not compatible then for $50 you can buy a receiver with a medium size transmitter # GIRU-1T and the Genie mini remote # GMIC90-2BL

...alternatively, you can use your mobile phone. The steps involved are not too tricky :

1/ 5 mins before reaching home, pick up mobile (or use hands-free option, preferably).

2/ Call home.

3/ Get spouse, girl/boyfriend or children to come out and open the garage door for you.

Works every time and no $$$ to spend.

Palting: You only need to buy the remote, then you put your garage door opener in the learn mode, and teach it to receive the signal from the remote. No need to buy anything else.

Palting,

Are you going to try it? If so, I think I'll wait for your report.

I've thought about it. Decided I'm happy enough with my "clunker" clicker.
