Post New Member/C4S Front Fascia Question

New owner, (02 C4S )Can anyone tell me how to remove the black molding, on the bottom of the fascia? Don't see any fasteners. I pulled a little to "close" to a curb today. Glad it didn't damage any thing else. Thanks for any help.

Question

Hi Tom. Since no one answered your question, (which is very rare on this board, by the way), and especially since it's your first post I thought I'd give it a try with a suggestion. Try pulling fairly hard on one end because the lip just may lock into place and "pop" out with a hard pull. Can't guarantee anything, but it might work. I can't imagine that it is permanent because it's a different material than the bottom of the bumper. Well, anyway, good luck..it was jus a thought...

Hi Tom, and welcome to the board.

Are you removing the lip just to protect it, and not replace it? I'd advise you to just keep it on. It would probably look funny without it, and would probably also perform funny at speed. If you are worried about resale, you can always replace it later if it is damaged.

I've come to that conclusion after some minor scrubbing. I spent 3 days on the track, flogging the car with no untoward event. Drove back to the hotel, parked the car, and promptly scrubbed the lower surface of the chin !! Took a knife to the resultant plastic "whiskers" on the bottom edge. I'll probably do it again sometime , and I'l just replace it when it gets bad enough.

Hi Tom,
I agree with Palting! (Again) I also have scraped the front a few times and despite my anguish at the sound,it actually has resulted in no obvious damage. Gosh, I hope it doesn't result in reduced points at a Concours event!

Hmmm...talk about communication and assumptions. I thought Tom wanted to know how to remove so he could repair and/or replace it! DUH!

Hi TomB,
I just checked with my son, and he remembers the lower lip has built-in chips that clips on from the bottom, we took a look at our front lip and didn't see any screws but did see some built-in mounting clips. I would be careful yanking that thing, it is only plastic.

Thanks for all the help. My plan is to replace the damaged "lip" ($160). I'm sure looking at the new part will give a hint to how it is fastened.

Loren, you are the expert here, but what I see in your schematic is a TT front clip, not a C4S. The "lip" on the C4S is a little different as I recall (something about airflow). I don't know if it secures to the bottom of the front bumper section any differently than on the TT but my recollection was that the C4S "lip" was quite a bit more hearty in terms of construction that the lip on the TT.

Yes... I don't have diagrams for the C4S yet. But I do think it attaches to the bumper the same way. Even though the lower lip/shape is different the part where it attaches to the is the same as a TT.
