Question how many of us have snow tires?

i bought a set of rims from a 993 turbo with pirelli winter 210 tires for the winter. i just couldn't stand seeing the car in the garage any more!

my 996 c4s is the best tonic for the winter blues that i have ever found! pretty good in the snow too!

I use Dunlop Winter Sport M2's in the winter and I love them. They seem to have the best reviews/ratings on Tire Rack from actual owners. With the combination of AWD, PSM and winter tires I actually find myself HOPING for horrible weather now!

I bought a set of Carrera 2 17" wheels and put Michelin Pilot Alpin's on them in anticipation of more snow here in the Northeast. Of course now that I'm prepared, no snow in the forecast. Does the car work well in the snow? I would imagine so.

What kind of air pressure do you run in your snows? The Pilot Alpin's that I have on my car say 55psi max, but that seems like a lot, currently running at 38psi. Should I be running them at the rated pressure?

I also have a set of Pirelli SnowSport 240 (225 and 265) on my 996 Turbo. Pretty good grip.

Here are some videos of them in action... Just having fun in the snow. (4 MB each)

That is the maximum pressure the tire manufacturer says it can take/withstand, NOT what you're supposed to inflate it to! You still need to follow the owner's manual/sticker under the trunk for proper inflation levels according to the size under the M+S column...

Hi Andreas,

The big parking lot with the trees is located in Broc, near Bulle (thanks Nestlé!). When we arrived there, it was fully covered with snow, so I thought it had to be cleaned...

The small place with more snow is hidden behind Saanen/Gstaad airfield. BMW was preparing a snow-track for their official snow-courses, but there was little snow and I only made 2-3 runs there (not on video). Didn't want to ruin their track before the course! So I found another little open space to play with...

I'm gonna try to find some other similar place this coming week-end...

Greetings!
--Pierre

PS: BTW, I sent you a private message regarding track tires...

I have snows the roof rack, roof box and tire chains! I take my C4 skiing! It actually handles much better in the snow than my Jeep Overland! You should see the people at the Ski slope when I pull in and my kids get out of the car, get their skis out of the box and head for the slope!!!

Not me!

I don't take my C4 out when the weather is bad, too many crazies out there. And if I do get caught "out" there is a set of light duty snowchains in the bonnet.

AWD RX300s are far from perfect for those times but one helluva lot cheaper to repair.

Yes I drive it in the winter. I bought the Porsche because I like to drive sports cars, not look at them while I drive a dull car.
Got a set of C2 17" 'take-off's' from Wheel Enhancements and mounted Dunlop Winter Sport M2's. The C4 is great on the ice (and snow until you get high-middled). It's fun to take off from a stop light intersection covered with glare ice while everyone else is fishtailing or just not moving. The for the Christmas snow we had about 4" on the ground which was no problem at all.

dp--
your response is cruel but i suppose expectable from the land of fruit and nuts

pierre--

great videos- i can't wait to see more videos from you in deeper snow! it's great to see someone so obviously enjoying himself

overall it's great to hear how versatile these c4's are in snow and ice.

can anyone advise us how many inches of snow are required for these cars to bottom out?
