Nagging ?? w/996...
Something that has always nagged me in the 996: why does the temp control unit turn itself back on with each startup if I've specifically turned it off before shutting the ignition off? This stuff was always mechanical before, but with the 996/7's LCD digital technogadgetry, the unit somehow has the power to turn itself back on by itself. Any way to disable this nuissance?? Any help appreciated, as always.

You realize the car runs cooler with with the fan blowing? If you don't want the A/C on when you fire it back up just turn off the compressor before you shut it down.

Doesn't the cooling system already have radiators and fan? What does the fan blowing air into the interior space have to do with cooling the engine? And if that air were cooling the engine, wouldn't that mean it would be heating the interior space?

I thought the cooling fans (on the radiators) only came on when the A/C was on or the coolant temperature reached a certain temp. Dell I don't think the on/off of the climate control has any effect on the fans on the radiators up front (expect with the A/C is turned on then the fans definitely kick on) or the fan in the engine compartment.
The Germans have something against the climate control system staying off. My wife's 3 series BMW does the same thing. BMW goes one step more annoying though. Hitting the Auto button does automatically turn on the A/C. That must be manually turned on (for the life of me I can't figure out the logic in that).

I never said that the fans come on with the AC off. I merely said that if he didn't want the AC when he starts his car he needed to turn it off manually before shutdown.
But the fans will run for added cooling with the AC on which is what I stated. I guess my first sentence should have been ammended to state .....blowing as long as the AC is engaged.

IIRC, my AC control stays off upon restarts. The display will show desired temp with fan at zero which is OFF. If you turn down the fan by one button, it'll say OFF but that's the same as before.
I have an 02.

^ nope..not on my 99. It will not blow air but it won't be "OFF", off.
Side Note: whats the deal with the A/C control that says "Manuell"?

Manuell is German for "Manually" I believe. Manuell goes away when you hit the "Auto" button, but will come back if you adjust the fan speed or vent controls.
Is the system off when "off" is not displayed? If so what does the "off" setting mean?
