Post Winter Tire & Wheels for 996 C4S

What are my options for Winter Wheels and Tires for a 996 C4S? I'll probably have mine sometime around Christmas and will a winter setup for the Denver Winter.

Same as turbo apparently.
Try tire rack or similar.
If you wait much past October there won't be any left - big winter tires are uncommon and sell out quick from what I've heard.
Just don't get the last set - or if you do, leave it outside, ,tell me where it is and don't put the wheel locks on...

If you won't have the car until December, it might be a good idea to have your dealer have a set of winter tires ready for you upon delivery. And you are perfectly right in getting a winter set of tires AND wheels. My dealer has a complete winter set available in Turbo hollow spoke wheels last I checked.

If you are ready to go shopping, the winter set wheels for the C4S are 8Jx18H2 front and 10Jx18H2 rears. Only the rears are different fom the summer set. Tires for these are 225/40/18 (88 H M+S)fr and 265/35/18 (93 H M+S) rr. You can use snow chains on the above rear tire/wheel combo.

Merry Christmas!! <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

I did go out to the tirerack site, but there was nothing listed for snow tires. I was hoping to get something like Dunlop Winter Sports, Michelin Pilot Alpins, or Bridgestone LM22's.

So the 10" rears will work? What offset will the wheel have to be? I am considering some HRE's, since the only wheel listed on the tirerack site is the SSR GT3. Oh, and what's the bolt pattern for the wheels on this car? TIA.

If you want to do it the "Porsche approved" way, here's what they recommend:

Wheels: 18" Turbo Look II solid spoke version of Turbo II which is the same as what you have on the C4S except for a different rear wheel size.

8" x 18" ET50
10" x 18" ET47

Tires:
225/40-18 ContiWinterContact TS 790 V or Dunlop SP Winter Sport M2
265/35-18 ContiWinterContact TS 790 V or Dunlop SP Winter Sport M2

Porsche sells the package with the Conti tires. The part number is 000.044.600.22. Otherwise, you can source the wheels and tires separately.

Rather than drive my C4 in the wintertime I bought a used Ford ranger PU with 115K miles, probably for about the same price of winter tires + wheels.

In 95 I drove my Jeep past the Microsoft Campus main entrance where there were literally dozens of 911s, BMWs, etc, sideways, backwards, in many assorted conditions on the slight incline.

YOU may be able to "go" in the wintertime in Denver, but how will you get around all the traffic that doesn't?

With snowchains on my old PU I can drive through the barrow pit if I need too.

My intention is to be a daily driver. I have a boxster now and I end up driving the TT in the winter or my Ford Escape. So I am getting rid of my boxster and getting the C4S. I want to drive a porsche in the winter.

Get rid of the Ford, keep the boxster for summer, and the C4S for winter. Keep the TT to transport dirty stuff, like kids.

Sorry, wife usually drives the TT. Use the Ford to transport the two dogs when we go on long trips. TT is too small for that and I won't put them in the Porsche. No kids.

No matter what you do, don't try ordering the winter package from a P dealer When I asked mine, the quote was something like $5,500 for Porsche Turbo Look II wheels and Conti tires.

I ended up ordering from Wheel Enhancements: same wheels and Pirelli 240 Snow Sport since I'm not driving Turbo in deep snow anyways. This ran me around $3,200 if I remember correctly.

An even more economical solution is to use Millia Miglia Cup 3 wheels: they look similar to Turbo Look's and you can get them in correct offsets.
