Post Weight savings from stripped interior

How much do the Cup Cars save in weight versus a regular GT3 because of the stripped interior, and the weight savings from the spartan doors to accomodate the cage. The cage obviously adds some weight back, but on a net basis, how much weight is saved by removing all carpeting and plastic?

Hi Andrew -

My cup car last scaled out at right around 2600 lbs., at that time with two seats in it. I believe the street GT3 is around 29xx lbs. (Viken? others?), giving you a delta of 300-3xx pounds. However, all of that is not due to the stripped interior (no air conditioning, differrent wheels & tires, etc.)....

Cool

Hey Andrew, sounds like you have a project for the weekend. Take all of the interior parts out of your car and weigh them. Let us know the results!

Just kidding. Some quick thoughts... sunroof, changing to race seats and removing back seat are about 120 lbs (have the exact numbers at home, email me if you want them). These are all GT3 style mods to get you down to the 2900 lbs range. The cup cars use some carbon fiber parts and more alloy parts. If we are comparing to a stock 996 coupe, the radio and speakers are probably worth 30 lbs, the spare is 40 something, fuel cell is probably lighter. Carpet and odds and ends 5 here 10 there. A/C system probably another 30-40 lbs. I kow there is also a 100 lbs or so in the exhaust. The steel headers w/ heat shields and such verses the cup car aluminum system. All starts adding up.

What are you plans or thoughts?

I am a waiter (2003 X51 C2) and am payign careful attention to weight. I deleted the sunroof, plan to change to GT3 seats, remove spare, remove back seats, etc. The X51 supposedly has aluminum headers, not sure what the weight loss from that will be. I have weights on a lot of the items if you need particular detail.
