Default LA Auto Dismantlers Ate My Hamster....

... (to quote an old UK headline... any resemblance to the truth is purely coincidence)

.... well they took my money anyway...

....... but sent me a brand new set of PSE Mufflers

They sat in the garage for almost 2 hours while i got my son ready for bed... then i was straight under the car.
Its a very easy install really.
I just jacked up the car... wheels on, bumper on, and crawled arround underneath.
Took me about 45-minutes per side... with most of that trying to get the damn tail pipe clamp off and then back onto the new mufflers.

They do sound great though... i kept waking up last night thinking of driving the car in the morning... sad eh ?

The sound at start up is fantastic.

They sound quieter than i expected. Does this get louder as they break in ? My old stock mufflers seemed to get a little louder over the first 10k miles

Its raining in CA so i cant get the full effect yet, but driving thru the underground car park made me almost laugh out loud it sounded so good.
Cant wait to get the top down and hear things in full glory.

(so i guess LA Auto arent all bad... its a junk yard after all, and you cant expect "have a nice day" kind of service ??)

At WOT they are awesome! Give them some time to break in and they will get louder.

That would get louder and better sounding. Loved my PSE upgrade on my old '02 targa.

Yeah right. I find that very hard to believe. Here's what would happen. YOu would submit an offer of say $750 and they would accept, then send you used broken down cans and then when you ask what happened, they would say "what do you expect for $750?

From all the horror stories heard here I would NEVER risk dealing with shady characters like that.

Well I WAS that person...
I made an offer of $850, with $25 off the shipping costs and guess what...

I got a brand new (although a bit dusty) set of PSE mufflers.. for the price they quoted.

I bought these a few hours before the whole scare messages appeared about them being con men and rip off outfit.

I didnt get the electrical stuff, but that is only $200 from Carnewal anyway.

Sunset quoted me $1850 for the full kit... Euro exchange rate perhaps.. it was $1400 or so a few months ago.

Dell - That is why I said that you read alot of bad posts on LA. But then, here is a guy who bought from them and seems to have gotten a good deal. I know the couple of times I have contacted them on items they had for sale the never seemed to have quite what the said they did.

KarlB, I'm also inclined to believe your experience was an exception and not the norm with those guys. You don't really think we're all making this stuff up now, do you? Nonetheless, I'm ecstatic it worked out well for you, especially when they're brand new PSE cans!

I emailed them about a month ago on some used Tequipment ovals they had on eBay, and their quote was $500 shipped -- less than $100 off a new set. Not to mention the pics looked like they had been beaten to death. Their response to me was if I can't afford it, then I'm driving the wrong car.

Nice.

Well i ordered them literally hours before the "NEVER USE LA DISMANTLERS" threads.
The 5 days it took to get the parts were pretty scarry. I imagined a box of trash showing up at my door, after all the horror stories here.
The cans really look fine. the actuators work well (at least manually), no dents and no soot inside from use. I shook them to see if there were rattles, but that was OK. Porsche part numbers on the outside, and they said a warranty... not sure how to claim this if i would ever need it. They were even packaged pretty well.
They went on within a few hours of arriving on my doorstep, and sound just fine.
.. i havent use the radio since though :-)... and i drive with the window open unless its really pouring with rain.
Perhaps the used stuff is not quite such a good deal ???
