Cool now have 996 in garage!

Thanks to everyone who has influenced my new acquisition. (Actually I've had it 2 weeks, but driving has been much more fun than typing hence the delay posting!).

Specs: 2001 Orient Red 996 Cabrio w/ Grey top. Tiptronic, Full Leather (graphite grey), Adv Technic Pkg. Unfortunately for the wife, no heated seats (any recommendations for adding?)

The great irony is that my search stretched from Fla to Northern CA (my home)...and I ended up finding the right car at the right price about 5 miles from home!

Already bought a windscreen from Sunset Porsche. Those guys are great!
Also solved the great cupholder dilemma for $25 with www.ultimatecupholders.com. These work great too!
(Note: no affiliation with either of these companies)

Only complaint so far is that when I checked with a local car audio store that had done a great job previously on a 300zx for $700, they only wanted to talk about very expensive upgrades...like $1000/pair FOCAL speakers. Why does every vendor out there think that just cause you're driving a Porsche you have money to burn? They don't realize that it's too late...it's already burned on the car!

I changed my profile to include a picture, so hopefully that is functional.

I think that because of the way porsche designed the door speakers, using a sort of bass tube the shop needs to do some modifications in order to fit aftermarket speakers in. Things like that suck but it's more than made up for when you get to drive your Porsche. Nice car by the way!

Beautiful ride! Great color combination...hopefully my search will also result in finding the right car near home. And get used to people thinking you have money to burn now that you have a P-car. Happened to me all the time when I had my '97 Boxster.

Congrats! You mentioned that you bought a windscreen; isn't the windscreen included as part of the Advance Technic Package?

Do you plan on any mods? Any pictures that you can post?

You're right, the windscreen became separated from the car somewhere along the way before I knew the car. I know because the windscreen holder (the bag that attaches to the spare)was with the car. The seller made no representation that it was included, overall I had a fair price and so I didn't make a big fuss.

However I have an interesting observation that annoys me:

Cost of windscreen as included option: $250
Cost of windscreen "list price": $650 !!!

Why does it cost 2.5x more to buy it separate? It's not like there is special installation involved.
I asked a Porsche dealer about the $650 list. He was a little embarrassed and offered me the comeback "I guess it is just more expensive to buy a Porsche in pieces". I guess his hands are tied so he was just trying to diffuse the situation.
(Note to any Porsche managment listening in: we may love your cars, but ripping us off with non-sensical part pricing doesn't enhance brand loyalty)

Fortunately, through this forum, I found Sunset Porsche in Oregon and they offered me a fair price on a new windscreen. The new windscreen is now installed...and I've moved on.

For those who asked for pictures, click on my username to bring up my profile to see a front shot. I don't have any mods planned yet as I think I should first get used to the baseline. My wife wants to install heated seats and I'd like to upgrade the soundsystem (the CD player/speakers),not the exhaust :-)

Congratulations on purchasing the most beautiful color combination Porsche offers! I too purchased OR and GG, but in the C4S. I get more comments about the beautiful color than I do about the beauty of the car itself!

Orient Red is a beautiful color, but we just don't get to see enough of them. Would love to see a few more pics if you have the time/inclination.
