Post 19" HRE 542R WHEELS

I have an 03 C4S and wanted to go with 19" HRE 542/542R. First what is the difference between the two, because there is about a $500 difference in pricing. Also what would be the appropriate sizing so I would avoid any problems with clearance and the best tires. I prefer Pirelli, but hear they do not make a tire big enough, so I would have to go with Yokohama. Is this correct? Also what is the best place to purchase the rims from in terms of pricing. Also anyone with pics? Thanks.

R refers to reverse lip design. There's no stepping from the center piece of the wheel to the rim on a reverse lip design

I too have been researching this same setup. I've spoken to several different people on the subject and have determined that 19x8.5's for the front with 235/35/19's are the way to go. For the rear 19x11's with either 285/30/19's or, if money is no object, Yokohama's 315/25/19's would work as well. The Yokohama's run about $500 a tire for this "correct" rear tire size.

The 542r is a much more aggressive looking wheel in my opinion. If you take a look at Ebay right now they have a set of 542r's for sale and you can see them on a silver 996 Turbo. In my opinion, they look wicked hot.

As far as price is concerned, I checked with various places and found that my local America's Tire offered the best price. The Ebay price, in my opinion, was a little high at $5199. America's Tire offered me the exact same set up for $4375 including tax. This does not include tires.

Let us know if you are planning any more mods on your car - I'm still debating whether or not to go with the Euro suspension for my '03 C4S which lowers the car 20mm in the front and 10mm in the rear. It'd be great to hear from someone who's done the setup to know how the car rides with this suspension.

Redlinerobert do you have a number or website for America's Tire? Maybe they could give us a deal for two sets.

For you guys in colder climates with goat paths for roads, how do you believe the 19"s will ride? Besides ride quality, I guess I would be worried about bending a wheel here in Chicago. About this time of year you see huge chunks of road disintegrating before your eyes. . .

Doug,

I was not aware of a 315 from Conti. The 285 was actually suggested to me from ByDesign. However they mentioned that the SO3 285 is wider than other 285's.

Any opinions?

Doug,

Where did you get your Conti's? Since you live in Gilroy, I'd love to see your car sometime. I'm about 15 minutes south of you.
