Post C4S Ground Clearance

My driveway inclinces from the street to the garage doors. The difference in elevation is gradual and not particularly steep.

Over the years, I have had a few problems with some of my cars when backing out of the driveway onto the street. Just as the front wheels touch the street the nose of the car is at the lowest point and a protective rubber shroud on my current car has always rubbed a little. The bottom of that shroud is four inches from level ground.

Backing into the driveway does not alleviate the problem because it still rubs when exiting the driveway. BTW, there is no rubbing when entering the driveway.

So, now I am concerned about the ground clearance of the C4S, especially in the front of the car.

Does anyone know the distance from the lowest point on the front bottom of the car to level ground?

What often helps is entering/exiting very slowly and turning a bit sideways. Did you ever try that?

I lowered my C4S. I only have problems on relative steep driveways and take them very slowly and at a 45 degree angle if possible. You can see pics of it in the URL below.

Yes, I do angle my exits from the driveway, but still get a little rub on the vette.

I read somewhere the C4S is about an inch lower than the C2.

I would really like to know the measurement from the lowest point of the front end to level ground. I am hoping it is at least five inches.

Does anyone know the distance?

Well I figured out how to answer my own question. I went down to the local dealer and measured the ground clearance on 2000 C4.

The lowest point I could find was six inches to level ground.

Guess you didn't see it. I posted it for you earlier when you asked the question on the C4S in Pics thread.

"Arright, ohsixx. Waxed my car again today, and I actually got my tape measure out. Full tank of gas, nobody in the car, from the lower edge of the front spoiler lip to ground is 5 3/4". Might be a tad more, since I have drains in my garage floor and the lowest point is in the middle of each car bay and there is a slight rise to the walls. Hope that clears your driveway."

Palting: You are just terrific. I just knew if anyone got down on the ground to get this answer for me it would be you. Thanks.

BTW, I would have done it for you as well.

i only get a 5 1/2" measurement at the sides of the front spoiler. i would not lower this car further- it would drag everywhere

i'm not convinced that 996's need lowering anyway!

Click on my pics link below. Amongst many things are two pics of my lowered C4S. I think it fills the wheel wells very nicely. No major problems if you are careful...very careful.

Ignacio,

I hear you . I have owned the car for only two months. I may eat my words after a year of ownership and the romance attenuates.
