Default Orange Cap

I just read about this orange cap mod. 2 questions for those of you that have it.

1- Does it really make a difference in sound? I have a fabspeed exhaust already installed but I am looking for a little more sound in the cabin.
2- Where the heck do you get them? I followed the link and when I tried to check out it didnt let me? Are these impossible to find now?

Thanks............

it only makes a diff if you have stock exhaust. if you have aftermarket pipes you won't hear anything. I think it improves low end throttle response slightly.

don't know about availability (i got mine).

It is a little louder but only at WOT (wide-open throttle). 90% of the time I don't even notice it. I think the company "caught on" to the numerous requests for free samples and quit sending them.

If you add the Fabspeed cold air kit (which includes the "orange cap" mod), I think you will notice a difference.

I just installed a Fabspeed cold air intake and find the P more responsive (but I have a Tip, so this might work better for tips than manuals) and the car is a little louder...and yes if you go between 4500 and 6500 the sound is really good.

Ok, here is what I did a while back. No laughing.

I first removed the sound box that the hose connected to. I figured it offeres more volume in the box.

Second I used a smaller cap from a testors spray paint can forced up thru the hole to block the hole. It is very snug and will not pull thru. It also sticks up far enough to get the hose back on it AND use the hose clamp to tighten down on it. This keeps any air from sneaking in. You don;t want to have that happen as the air will come in behind the MAF thus causing all kinds of issues.........ask me how I know.

With my KN filter and the cap the throttle response is much better IMHO and sounds good.

Does anyone know for sure that by doing the orange cap mod we aren't hurting our cars performance? A Helmholtz resonance chamber on an intake tract is typically there to improve performance at a specific rpm level. These secondary blind chambers are usually postioned after the TB unlike ours, so I suppose the theory that the one in our airbox is there to suppress noise is plausible. Anyone know??

I remeber reading somewhere the box is specifically for noise reduction. I think I read it on Renntech.

Thanks for the replys everyone. I still dont know if I am going to actually install the cap when it arrives. Seems easy enough to do but I certainly dont want to increase the chances of something going wrong for such a minimal change if any in sound. Does anyone have the fabspeed exhaust with this cap on currently? I have fabspeeds already.

Alex,

I installed the OC mod prior to my Fabspeed exhaust and heard a slight improvement in sound at higher RPM's. I then installed the by-pass pipes and was to lazy to remove the OC so left it on. Does it give more cabin noise, hmmmm...I really dont know because the by-pass pipes is sufficient enough for my taste.
