750hp Porsche Twin Turbo vs 4500lb Benz SL65 = Guess Who Hits 10s in the 1/4? :)
Some nice vids of some crazy fast heavily modded twin turbo/997 SCed porsche races..
one against a 4500lb SL65... only mods on the SL65 are renntech ecu and airbox..
guess which marque hits the mid 10s in the 1/4?

obviously some guys with fast money and faster cars..
BobPorsche996 / BobSL55 / Bob740iL :>

There's some guy with a Chevy Astro mini-van that runs in the 10s. He didn't have to spend all that much money to make it go that fast, either. I'd still rather have my good ole 996 than a 10sec Mercedes anyday. Speed isn't so impressive since anyone can make their car go fast in a straight line.

if you are trying to imply that the sl65 is comparable to an astrovan and can only go in a straight line due to it's ECU and airbox upgrade, then you obviously haven't checked out the sl65 suspension stats...
if you checked into the suspension setup on the sl65, you would see it's very comparable, if not superior to most any high performance sports car out there on the market today.. even though it's not a true sportscar of course.. more GT like than anything.... and can hang on a circle track with most any vehicle in it's price range.. but it's suspension is not setup like a camaro or astrovan if that's what you are implying...
regardless, just thought they were interesting races.. haven't seen many fast low 11 second porsches run before..
in terms of having both cars, everyone has a preference.. the owner of the benz also owns the porsche as well, (as well as a carerra GT. the bastard.. ) so he's obviously not biased.. he loves both marques, as i have both as well.. (although not even close to as nice as his ) he just did what he could to bring out the full potential possible in both of his vehicles and those are the results..

1.After watching the video, it seemed as though the Porsche was not getting very good starts (almost like he wanted to preserve his clutch or not do any damage to the engine). It did not seem like he pushed the car to its full potential. Even his times were different in every race.
2. It would also be interesting to see what would happen if the cars were cruising at about 120 then see who pulls away the fastest.

well one must realize the porsche had 750lb of torque vs the benz which had 980lb of torque.. that extra 230lb of torque isn't a small number.. also the sl65 and camaro both had drag radials.. that is probably a huge factor as to why the sl65 and the camaro took off so quickly vs the porsche..

Just think, if you hadn't wasted all your money on the Porsche engine, your SL55 could be a SL65. Then however, we wouldn't have been so lucky as to have you on this board, would we.

The Porsche's lauches were horible.. If he could hook up he'd do .2 better easily. But Porsches at the 1/4 is taboo.
120 mph pull away, where could this ever happen, not at a roadcourse. Race what you brung the SL handed that Porsche it's ***.

Bob, I drove my B.I.L's S600 with AMG package (It says amg on the motor and had the rims and it say's amg on the rear and has V12 on the side), it may not be a sl65 but I was surprised with the drive. It was extremely powerful, very fast and stable on straight line acceleration, I did not push it hard on the corners as my wife was with me but at moderate speeds cornering seems to be good for a sedan but his bmw 745il corners better. The steering feedback is the WORST of any vehicle I've ever driven,...YES it includes the sienna and the honda vans, a few lexus a chevette and a tercel. It was freakingly unbelievable, totally numbing steering response, I would put it a notch above my x-box gaming controle. Do you think it's because it's a s600, or could something be broken. I told him I'll pick the less powerful ugly 745il over the s600 amg any time.

I'm not a drag racer but, dispite the bad starts by the pcar doesn't the 133 mph by the pcar indicate that the car was going faster at the end?

Are you asking if the Porsche would have eventually passed if it were a mile race?
