I have read all the lifting posts in this forum, and am left with a few questions. I read about some people using hockey pucks for a pad on the jack and jack stand. My question is how is the puck used on the jack stand? I have the 3 1/2 ton Craftsman stands (with the "v" shaped top) and they don't look like a puck will fit in them. Is there any way to keep the stands from scratching up the jack points? Thanks for your help.
The hockey puck idea if for lifting jacks only, not jack stands.
A method that I use to protect the jack point from getting scratched by the jack stand is to dip the cradle end in PlastiDip. This works very well, and puts a high grip surface on the jack stand.
Okay, thanks for clearing things up. I too have used the plastidip for the top of the stand. I wasn't sure it would hold up or not, as it seems the coating remains a little soft..
Orient,
Thanks for the excellent write up on jacking up the car. I will try to follow that procedure, hopefully with no problems.
To get the best surface, You dip in plasticoat, let dry, dip again, let dry, etc. and build up a thick coat. I think I put 10 layers on, and it is tough as a piece of nylon.
