Question Do you guys get this soot?

Do you guys get this soot on your rear bumper? I get this much after approx 2 to 3 hours of driving. I used to get the same thing on my 993 when I had it.

(I'd like to think its from the exhaust, but I've seen a post before that it was from the tires due to the rears being toed in??)

I don't have it. You may want to clean up the inside of the tail pipe and check for exhaust leak. Also, is your car up to date on service? Is it running rich for any reason?

I doubt that's from the tires.

Every car, truck or any other object that is moves along the road on rubber tires gets it, whether the owner notices or not. This is dust from the tires. exhaust as well as road film. The lighter the car color, the more you will notice it. The more polished your car, the more you will notice it as a fine dust. If your car doesn't have a smooth finish on it, it may accumulate in clumps. Obviosly, if you clean your car often or dust it regularly, you may think you are amune to this.

Ok, at least I'm not as worried now. I was starting to think that it could be the oil seperator that everyone is talking about. Like I said, I get the same soot on my 993.

Thanks!!

I had the same in previous 993 soon after purchase, turned out the toe in adjustment cams were reversed when they replaced clutch as condition of sale. Toe in was way off, they gave me free alignment and rear tires and no more problems. It seems not obviously happening on my 996 C4

porsche = great handling car...$90,000
z- rated tires = good grip...$800
quick detailer = good looking car...$5

coming home to find tire dust on your back bumper from ripping around in the porsche all day = PRICELESS

Looks quite normal. Get a california duster...works great for getting the dust off.
