Post Help - armrest broken?

The armrest/storage lid broke when a friend knoced into it while it was open. The 2 plastic hinges snapped off in the middle. I tried gluing them, but to no avail.

Is this common? Does anyone know if it's easy to fix this? Or does it require an entirely new center console?

It is very, very common and that is exactly how mine broke. In fact, I tried to epoxy it with no luck. It was then that I found out that Porsche will repair this for free under warranty (since it's a known problem). The plastic tabs were ground off and replaced with a sturdy metal hinge that got riveted to the console and arm rest. If your car is out of warranty, I'm certain that you could purchase the metal hinge and do it yourself.

If you can not get this covered under warranty (I think it should not be a problem)... I have the install instructions.

Same thing happened here, and Porsche fixed it exactly how Alon described it... Anyway, I'm now using that thing very carefully. Still doesn't look very strong...

So eventually I'd like to get a new center console - will I be able to move the brakets along with it? Thanks!

Actually Pierre, mine seems very strong now compared to before. My only complaint is that due to the thickness of the metal and the fact that it is surface mounted, the armrest doesn't seem to move quite as fluid-like as before. Oh well. My wife and I have tested it out and it seems to hold up to the abuse of over 315 pounds collectively (she's only 105 pounds, I'm the big, fat bastard). Just kidding. Seriously, the fix works well. My car has a few other issues that I wish would be resolved but I'll leave those for another post. Hey, send us some good chocolate! All we have in Canada is crap.

ZeeZee,

All the newer consoles are built stronger so, it will depend on what and when you upgrade. Most center consoles do require you to transfer all hardware (lock button, leather trim pieces, etc.).

What? The Aero Bar is the best thing in the world? Are you kidding? We don't even get the "Whatchamacallit" chocolate bar here. We do get Ritter Sport (Yummy Hazlenut) and some Cadbury crap plus that wierd Toblerone chocolate but Switzerland's chocolate kicks butt. I'll trade you some good beer for some good chocolate. Oh yeah, we get lovely weather (sarcasm for those of you who don't know me) in Toronto so I guess that all is not bad but the chocolate stinks.

Alon, I am originally from Toronto, and I didn't appreciate the chocolate in Canada until I left! The chocolate down here in Los Angeles totally sucks. I miss my Crispy Crunch, Virginia, Smarties and EatMore so much that I buy them from http://www.panhandlepremium.com

Darn.... I hosed myself 'cause I bought the new lid when I broke it! It was easy to replace however. Now , if it happens again I'm gonna get it done under warranty!

Just got back from the dealer, they fixed it under warranty (took 1/2 hour). The cost on the sheet would have been $80, so if this happens to anyone out of warranty, don't pay more than that for the fix...
