Replacing Ash Tray and CD/Cass Storage Bin
In another thread AndrewP made some comments about replacing the ash tray with a storage tray and replacing the CD/Cass area.
I have not seen this offered on the Porsche site, Kelley Blue Book, or in the NADA Guides.
I would like to do both of the above, so where can I find some information on these options?

Contact Suncoast Porsche in St. Pete, FL. I got all the necessary parts from them. I tried to get the parts from the local dealer there in Jax with no luck whatsoever.

Got my bin to replace the tray at the dealer, about $30, with free installation by the service manager who happened to notice I was in the parking lot studying how to put the thing in. Used something that looked like a plastic spoon to elevate the snaps off the catches and the tray slid right out. Bin then snaps right in. Service manager said they would have been happy to replace the tray for free before delivery. Told him he was kinda late with THAT piece of news. So, ask your dealer if he can replace it with a bin for free prior to delivery.
Does the ashtray delete actually delete the ashtray? If that is the case, I'd leave the ashtray in. It's another cubby hole that I find handy for small stuff.

The kit replaces the ashtray with an open tray and a rubber mat at the bottom to keep things from sliding around.

Do you have the part number to order the ashtray replacement kit?

Tom from Sunol, CA did a great job documenting this change. See his site at the link below:

So I did the cassette holder (now a neat pocket) and the ashtray (I included the $6 rubber no smoking cigar lighter plug). One more "convenience" to go. What do I replace the cupholders with? I'm hoping for a pocket similar to the one that replaced the cassette holder.

The "Non Smoking Package" (replace lighter with plug and open storage bin instead of ashtray) is no longer available from Porsche for '02 models.
Solution: use the closed ashtray as is and get your own plug

No, no, not correcting anybody. Just wanted to share the part numbers as I ordered them (I found 2 of them in the howto link above). And hoping someone knows some part numbers to share to replace those useless, though very convenient, cupholders! I'm hoping a shelf or pocket exists in which to mount high tech electronic goodies!

I stand corrected. At least I was right about it not being offered installed.

Can someone post a pic of what it looks like?
My only thought is that I have a painted console and the ashtray is part of that paint. It might take away from the looks of mine, but I don't know unless I know what it looks like in others.
Thanks!!!!!!

No photos, but you would want to get the part painted to match your console. It replaces the ashtray and the surrounding area just past where the window swithces are.
