Post M030 on my 996 / Pics.

Hi,

I finally got my Euro M030 installed.
Go to this link Leo - Euro M030 and you can see the difference between the Factory and the Euro M030 suspension.

While we are on the subject can anybody tell me how to tell if I have a non-stock suspension? My 2000 C2 has 19" wheels and definately rides much firmer than my old '96 C4. Not bad mind you, but I'm curious if the previous owner might have added a 030 and I'm wondering how I can tell.

Ray, if you end up having 030 and want to go back to stock, I'll probably be selling my stock suspension soon (only 6k miles on it).

very nice. The word here is "SUBTLE". Did you have to change the alignment? Is there going to be any "bump-steer" with this setup? My set is flying over the Atlantic now from Gert's.

Hi Arthur,

yes, my porsche shop did it. They did the installation as well. I am just a software guy, like Graham.;-)
I mean instaling a muffler, ok, but a suspenion, NO !
I do not understand "bump-steer" ?!

You don't have to change the alignment (might be a good time to have it checked), although the lowered ROW M030 chassis at least now gives you the option for some adjustments. I went to 1 degree negative camber in front to give the car a little more front grip for better turn in and reduced understeer. I've noticed absolutely no bump steer (Styx: that's when going over a bump causes the steering wheel to kick from side to side and the car changes direction). I think that's one of the plusses of a Porsche engineered suspension for the street over a more radical aftermarket setup....it's designed to work right with minimum drawbacks.

FWIW, the alignment will have to be redone when shocks and springs are changed. This is true whether or not you want to keep the factory specified settings.

Rjay,
If your car had 030 as a factory option this code should be listed on the underside of the hood. Otherwise you will have to get the part numbers off the shocks and perhaps someone can help you.

Question

Hi,

looks great and I'm sure handles better than the sloppy standard suspension. Having done some suspension work on a Dinan BMW in the past, It's really tricky getting it right.

Question: Did any special instructions come with the kit (camber, alignment, etc.) that the dealer used or did you just trust they would get it right. Perhaps someone knows if this kit is just a "bolt on".

Also, was there a special kit for convertibles (different weight from the coupe)?

thx

Thanks.
No, there are no instructions.
You have to know what you do.
And yes, i trust my mechanic,
he absolutely knows what he does.
I guess he has a workshop manuals,
after all these are porsche parts,
like the mechanic.lol

As fare as i know there is no difference
in the parts for the cab.

Have a nice holiday season.

Not true. There are diff parts for C2 vs. C4, 6 spd vs. tip, and coupe vs. cab.

Definately not on the car originally. The previous owner had the sport exhaust installed after the fact, so I thought he might have done some other tweeking as well. So heres a thought, as the 030 lowers the car front and rear, I presume I could at least tell if theres been any mod by a simple measurent. Does anyone know the measurements for stock and/or 030 from the center of the wheel or bottom of the disc to the ground?

My 01 from the ground to the "apex" of the wheel well was about 26 1/2"
