Default B&M or Schnell SSK

Any input on either product. I want the B&M, but the Schnell also looks nice. No experience with either, so any input would be valued.

I put the B&M in car SS in my 2000 C4. Easy install if you are handy. Love it. Shorter throws, crisper. I did replace the shifter linkage with an Agency Power linkage at the same time. The stock part is plastic, wears fast and has a lost of slop in it after awhile. If you have the console apart you might wnant to do the linkage at the same time. Don't have any experience with the under car version from B&M

does anybody have the instructions for the under car version. I am wondering what is involved in the installation. I know some people are running both.

Just installed the Schnell set up. Excellent step by step with pics instructions, and comes with seat belt pads.
Shifts tight and positive.
I'm Happy!

B&M is identical to Porsche's (just doesn't say PORSCHE on it) - not sure about the Schnell. Most go w/B&M.

They are virtually identical, save some cash and get the schnell. If money is no object, go for the oem ssk.

I have the B&M, no problems. Sounds like either brand is a good choice. it is too bad that these shifters are not standard on the 996. They make all the difference in the world.

I agree, they should make them stock. The first thing I do whenever I pick up a new sports car is install a SSK. I have heard good things about the B&M, but the Schnell looks identical and have heard good things about it, but not as much as the B&M. I think I will give the Schnell a try and see, if I do not like it, sell and get the B&M. Thanks for the input guys.

I installed the Schnell unit and to date have been happy. I also drove my buddies 996 with the B&M SSK, no difference. The Schnell unit came with good instructions but I also downloaded the B&M process and was able to pick up one or two tips to make the installation easier.

Get either or...but get the SSK mod!!!!!

The SSK is a must for sure, and a good DIY project.

had a B&M in my 2002. I just intalled the snell in my 2004 C4s. The directions were pretty good. Cutting the snap in flanges from the stock set up was a bit unnerving. I contemplated getting out the dremel tool!.
The job was easy and the results are crisp and fo $160 on ebay, a bargain. Vertex sells them for under $200.

I had the Schnell installed a few months ago. Love the difference. Did my first PCA Performance Driving School not long after and definitely enjoyed the difference!!

Doesn't that SSK on ebay look sort of like the older OEM version? It doesn't seem to have the plastic housing seen on new parts.

Just ordered the Schnell from Vertex. Should have it here tomorrow. From talking to the vendor it's identical to B&M, which I believe is the OEM supplier for Porsche.

The schnell is a direct knock off of the B&M so they should both be very similar in feel. And agreed, a short throw should be the first mod installed in a 996 or boxster. I have also installed a few Tech art short shifter kits that mount on the tranny, easy install, but doesn't feel as good as the B&M.
