Don, this is quite strange. In fact i read in a french forum that some 996 owners have already this factory option . the cost is about 2000 $us. And it seems the sound is quite strong. They even advice to not use it inside the city!.

Does this option would be only for Europe?

Andreas
The Porsche Sport Exhaust was insatlled at the factory on my 02 C4S that was built in January. It is programmed to run in the normal, non-sport, mode between 25 mph and 45 mph due to residential area noise restrictions in a couple of European countries, of which Switzerland is one. No such restrictions exist in the US, but US Porsches have the cutout operated by an override switch for 03 models to permit the driver to run in sport mode at all speeds. The cost of the Sport Exhaust was $2400, and worth every penny! I plan to have the dealer install the center console cutout switch on my car. I do not understand why PCNA has not promoted the Sport Exhaust option. It seems to remain a relatively well-kept secret from all but those of us who frequent the forums. I have also heard that PAG will offer a Sport Exhaust option on the 03 Twin Turbo, but it is only conjecture at this point. PAG could take a lot of business from the tuners if it so chose by offering the bits that are popular. I wish to keep my car stock, as do many others. It is very difficult and expensive to improve upon Porsche engineering.

I have just had the factory sports exhaust installed by my dealer for the factory option price of CAN$3300. I had an on/off switch installed on the carpeted bulkhead wall to the left and above the spoiler switch. So it's loud or quiet.
As I posted before, the sound is wonderful, you just have to hear it.
Apparently Porsche has a problem with the "control unit" for the sports exhaust as fitted by dealers and they are re-engineering it. So rather then wait who knows how long we went with a set up that negates the need for the control unit as I just have the on/off switch which controls the vacumn operated by-pass. Its about an 8 hour install time.
Again, the sound is amazing, once you hear it, you'll buy it. I went with the switch, so on long highway trips, I'm thinking I can switch to quiet mode and crank up the sound system.

My wrench in Charlotte just installed a modified exhaust. Basically similar to factory Sport exhaust except there is no on/off switch. e-mail me for details.

Thanks guys for the info,
I don't understand why this great option has been a little bit "hide" ... i think this would be a great upgrade , But wich now one is better, I mean fabspeed exhaust against the Porsche sport exhaust!?... the second one you can use it as you want it depends the way of driving... thefist one sems to be cheaper...

On the 2003 factory sports exhaust is the switch 100% on and 100% off, or does the on mode still include the 20-40 mph cutout that was included on the 2002 sports exhaust?

Greetings, What if anything is going on inside of my '02 C2, delivered @ end of Feb? I left the "Sport Exhaust' out of my options & shortly had my dealer install w/ B&M short shifter.
Am I supposed to have switches for the "Sound Police"?? Sounds just plan Healthy to me!
Porsche should have all their cars sound so good!!
