Default How Do You Remove Storage Lid B/W Seats from Console?

I puchased a new lower center consel (sp?) and had my local shop paint it for me arctic silver. I went to install it last night and transferred all of the clips, etc. from the old the the new unit. Everything went great but I cannot figure out how to remove the storage lid and cover from the old unit to install it on the new?

I figured out how to remove the leather cover and expose the spring for the lid. This gives me access to the fabric tensioner. I then remove the fabric piece and spring so I can access what looks like to very small hex nuts. However nothing fits in these nuts to remove them. Any idea how to remove this piece so I can transfer it to the newly painted unit? It is the metal piece that holds the spring and plastic bottom piece to the lid cover.

I may have to take some pics to better explain.

TIA,
Adam

There is a pin you need to slide out. Hmm, I'll see if I have any pictures. You can also try over at Renntech and do a search.

Pics would help but it sounds like you had the same problem I did when I bought my new painted rear center console. Problem is that you need a new hinge set (about $10). Don't hold me to that until I see pics of what you are asking.

Thanks guys. I'll take some pics tomorrow. Hopefully we are talking about the same thing. I'll do a search on Renntech as well.

Anybody know where the best place to order is from?

Thanks again,
Adam

If his new center console does NOT have the kit installed (which the new consoles don't) he will need to order a new hinge kit. As me how I know

Maybe Kilrgt is correct??? What if I cut the rivets with the small hand saw? Will the whole piece disconnect? I could then just use new 4mm pop rivets.

We won't know who is correct until we see pics of the two consoles to give you a more accurate response. We have both given you responses based on what you haven given us.

Found the pics I took when I did the same thing!!! Thought I had lost them forever. Anyway, you can see from below that the new silver console I bought from the dealer had NO hinge bracket installed and the old console had its' bracket pop riveted to the old one. No way to take so I bought the new hinge kit (roughly $10-15) and installed it on the new one and transferred everything over. He is a link to how to do everything when it was discussed some time back on Renntech( http://www.renntech.org/forums/index...c=245&hl=hinge ). Hope this helps.

I just purchased the hinge kit as well. It was $20 and I bent my old one trying to pry it off. Look like a real easy swap.

Once again, thanks everyone for your help.

Adam
