Default Paint Problems on new C2

Got a new 2004 C2 last month and noticed blemishes in paint. It had an aftermarket paint protector applied. Took it in after a couple of weeks and they tried to buff out. Didn't work. Took it in yesterday and they said the only thing they could do was repaint the whole car. It is under warranty but how much will this reduce the value of a new car? Will it be under CARFAX? They will have to have the car for two weeks! What should I do?

Thanks for you input.

Photograph it well, and get it documented by the dealer....it's still going to hurt you at resale, but not as much if you do the above....most people are worried that it was hit.......

You might REALLY try playing hardball, and ask for a new car. I got one once from Mercedes, for a different reason.....

I feel your pain.....good luck!!!!

If it's painted by a really good shop, the paint will be as good or better than factory.

Your dealer probably knows of or has a paint shop that does Porsche warranty work - have it painted
there.

The factory paint is not that great. If it is a good paint shop it WILL be better than factory.

Strong?? The factory paint is so watered down to meet the Euro air/water pollution guidelines, that is it thin and chips easily. If you get the car re-painted here in the states the EPA is much more forgiving with the enviorment. Plus it will be thicker too.

Evan,
u know me about my cars. any paint after factory will be softer & easily to get chipped period. i use both top notch bodyshop in WLA for all the customers' car & they admit it. their quality might be better than factory but no way the paint will be as strong.

munro86,
have u ever repaint a front bumper on the car? if u do u'll know what i mean.

btw, ''strong'' meaning chip resistance. it doesn't mean factory paint will not get chipped but sure it holds up alot better. on the other hand, most of the time we're driving a fresh painted car from bodyshop with a paint is not properly cured. thicker paint doesn't mean it's stronger. the right formula is the key.

btw, all bodyshop sucks because they always leave ur windows in the shop regardless they're working on ur car or not. it gets so messy inside they just don't care...

I know what you mean, I'm having my bumper cover replaced very soon and am worried about the end result. I'm thinking of getting the clear bra as soon as it's safe to do so.

I had lots of chips on my bumper and hood. I got it painted and it started chipping right away. I just got the clear bra put on the bumper and so far so good. I do notice some chips on the hood already.

BTW, make sure the body shop is good, because the application of the clear bra can lift the paint.

Yeah, when I get this work done I'm going to let the sun bake the car for while then apply the clear bra. Oh, why would I take the clear bra off, btw?

I recall having my old car bumper cover painted a few years ago and within a month it started to flake more the "Goldmember's" skin from the Austin Powers movie. I refuse to go through that again.

My front nose chips very easily, along with the rest of the body,so I don't really agree with the 'strong' notion.

The only way to avoid chips on the car is to not drive it on the freeway. The faster the car goes, the more chips it will accumulate......especially on U.S. freeways. Having the bodyshop bake the paint a little longer will certainly help w/ the cure time, but just driving the vehicle from the bodyshop back home can easily accumulate a few chips here and there since the paint is still soft.
