Default Dead Battery Question

Folllow up question:

Is it okay to replace my car battery, with a battery from a local auto parts supply store, or does it need to come from a Porsche dealer? If I can buy one from a local auto parts store which one do I get?

Also , my Check Engine Light and Air Bag Light is on, can that be causing my battery to drain? My headlights, A/C, and dashboard lights work when I turn on the ignition. Is there something more problematic with the engine that is causing the car not to start unless its jump started? My car is a '99 996 with 30k miles, driven mostly on weekends.

FYI: Air bag light is likely due to faulty seat belt sensors....had it replaced once before.

Thanks...I used a trickle charger last night...and car started this morning with no problem.

I was also wondering if the Check Engine Light or Air Bag Light, could also be an indication that my battery is being drained by some other problem. I never really had problems with my battery before my CEL went on. Thanks.

Any inexpensive battery is fine. You should be able to park the car for over a month without any problems with the battery. There is no additional use of the battery when parked than there is with any other new car with alarm system.

So would you say that I just need to get a new battery since my car is a '99 with 30k miles. Or would you suggest that there is a bigger problem with my car since the CEL is on? Thanks.

It's apparent that your current battery can not hold a charge. Go spend $60 for a new one.

I had a bad experience with the duralast battery.. autozone was cool and gave me a full refund. I now have the interstate battery but my next go around will try the redtop optima..

Autozone gave me an 800 number to complain about the spilled/leaky acid from the battery. What are the chances that they will pay for a new battery tray and or repainting the hood? Should I even bother calling?

Yes, it's fine to replace it with any other brand of battery, as long as it's spec'ed for your car

Not likely. Take the battery into any autoparts store and they should be able to test it free of charge. All and all you likely need a new battery.

Again, most likely your battery. As it takes a lot more to crank the starter than it does tot simply run dash lights, etc...
If the new battery exhibits the same symptoms, then it's time to grab a voltmeter and start pulling fuses out...
