Default 2001 Price. Reasonable?

I am looking at a '01 996 w/ 37k miles for around $42k? Do you think this is reasonable? The car is very lighlty optioned however, no PSM for instance.... I really want an '02 because I think the car is far superior but this price seems very good and an '02 would be at least $8k more and I'm not sure its worth it.... I am also considering buying a car for the remainder of summer/fall and wait for the winter when the '02 pricing comes down to my range(low 40k's). You guys think the 2002's will be trading in that range this winter?

I forgot to mention the car is still under warranty for 6mths also.......

On the west coast that is a good price if the car is in better than average condition. In the NE cars seem to go cheaper. If the car is in real good shape, buy it. I looked at a lot of cars before I found one in top condition. Obviously, you've used autotrader and ebaymotors in your search, right ?

My vote is to wait it out.... Put some post up here that you are looking and what your budget is..... Maybe instead of us loosing a member we can trade one.....

Just for comparison, I bought my '01 996 C2 in North Boston on the 30th of June for $43K. It is also lightly optioned but had 6910 miles and is "Certified Used" from Porsche till '07.

See 02 prices on autobaron.com - the plot of prices vs mileage makes this one of my favorite web resources for pricing cars.

No affiliation, etc. DrJ, see PM.

Interesting just sold my 2002 Cab. for $61.5 today

If you buy just on price, then you are making a mistake when buying a Porsche......I am certain there are exceptions, but it is " pay me now or pay me later"

Buy the best example you can afford......

Just saw an '01 with 28K at a dealer for $51,000. Very cherry. No mods except bumper plugs as far as I could tell.

Sounds like a fair price to me. There were a lot of improvements with the '02's, but the 996 MK1 is still an awesome machine.

If you like the '01 buy it, if not wait but you will pay more for the '02's no matter how long you wait. The MK1 pricing will drop along with the MK2's.

I purchased a blk/tan (dk wood trim) 2001 c2 / technic package / psm / 26500 miles / tip for $41500.00 (clean carfax)

The car has been trouble free and is a joy to drive...

Thanks everyone for the advise during my search.

Mike
