Default Suggested RPM on average for shifting gears

Hey all,
I was reading Porsche Buyer's Guide and it recommended shifting around 3000 to 3500 rpm every time to keep the engine healthy. Just wanted some feedback regarding what the consensus is for the 3.6L 996. Thanks for the help!

I typically shift around 4000 rmp but can't say this is a recommendation.

There is a reason for the rev limiter. You should test it regularly.

Before the car temp is up to about 180 I shift between 3-4K, once the engine temp is at 180 and tranny loosens up I shift at around 5-6k.

Right on!!!!!

Seriously, I shift based on engine load. Cruising along in traffic, flat road, slow going, I may I may keep the RPMs at around 2K. Uphill, same traffic, may go up to 3.5K, maybe to 4.5K if I'm frisky. From traffic light to traffic light, 3-3.5K. Entrance ramp to empty main highway....woooohooooo, let 'er rip! I regularly clear the car's system at the track, too.

Lugging the engine can ruin the engine. But so can revving it up with minimal load. Such as cruising along not accelerating at 6K on 3rd gear.

Once the engine is warm I shift between 4k-5k. If I'm out having fun redline all the way!

Spot on! I don't think I shift before 4K very often. I want to HEAR that sweet sound of PSE and the HP I paid for.

Likewise, since I got PSE my av. fuel economy has been ruined as I endeavour to keep it nailed above 3k
