Removing the resonator will give the airflow much smoother path to intake.
Wouldn't be supriced to see some hp gain with this mod. IMO

The problem with doing it this way is that the air from the vacuum line could have an oil mist to it ,which will then have to flow past the MAF sensor. I think Porsche specifically put that line after the MAF for a reason. I am still trying to figure out what that line is for, on the Tip & X51 cars.

Just had to apply a cheap hack to try out if I'd like the sound. Just disconnect the hose from to the HhResonator, take a piece of a thicker plastic bag and put it over the opening, re-attach the hose and clamp it all back = nice sound, suddenly screams at over 5k rpm. I might go for the more permanent solution (or take a nice black bag instead of the white one)

^^^ I used a rubber glove to test it first too. Only had it in there for a week but the glove was deformed from trying to be sucked into the intake. So be careful not to get that plastic bad sucked into the engine.

Brings back memories of the BMW guy that left his shop towel to plug up the oil cap and got sucked into his engine when he forgot about it.

buy a silicone pipe for the 996 from ebay for 20 bucks

Pull out the resonator

Cap the hole using a wing number sandwich plug that you can find at lowes in the plumbing departement...it actually looks cool too. This plug is red aluminum that has a fat rubber gromment that you ratchet down with the wing nut and it sandwhiches around the hole and hole opening...totally air tight. If you are afraid of the wing nut working loose just put a lock nut on top of it....

The whole mod costs $25 bucks. Its the exact same mod some are selling online for 200. I did it...I will try to get pictures if I can.

probably a dumb question, but does one cut the plastic open where the cap/wing number sandwich plug goes?

No, it's already there from the factory. You just need to remove two bolts from underneath to remove the resonator chamber. This will yield you a little more volume in the airbox assembly.
