Default Center Radiator - Can I Add?

I have a 1999 C2 Cab 6 speed and live in the San Diego area. The car runs a bit on the hot side (in my opinion) when in stop and go traffic or slow going. It runs just to the right of the 0 in 180 in normal ops. Looking at other posts, this seems a bit on the hot side. I'm worried that when summer comes it'll be worse. My questions are as follows;

1) Can I add the center radiator to this car?
2) How difficult a job is this (mounting, running coolant lines, tapping into current system)?
3) What are the drawbacks - if any?

Thanks for the help - the board is the best

Just get the third radiator kit from Carnewal or other source (Carnewal may be on the pricey side because of the Euro-Dollar exchange rate): http://www.carnewal-europe.com/cpx_p96064.htm

You can find the installation instructions on www.renntech.org. You can do a search.

Cheers,

I assume the car has a thermostat (I'm guessing on this one)...Maybe you should look into that.
Have you checked your coolant level? Tried a coolant flush?

Why would you spend that much money for a car that runs maybe 5 degrees hot if you are not tracking it or anything? San Diego doesn't get that hot, and these cars should be fine for road use in Phoenix or Dubai or Death Valley....

1. Yes, it's std eqipment on GT3s, X51, and Tips.
2. A straightforward, but not what I would call an easy upgrade, unless you are mechanically inclined. It's a factory part, so all the hardware and mounting points are already in place. There is a good writeup on Renntech.org. Foreign Affairs had it for a good price.
3. No drawbacks at all, especially if you track the car in hot places like Texas.
Try cleaning out your radiator ducts before you do anything, it's amazing how much crap can get in there and block them.

On tips? Didn't think the 3rd rad kit discussed here is standard on tips. Don't see why either.

If anywhere, I could use it here in Vegas but I still don't run that hot. I would check out a few things on your car first. COuld be as simple as a thermostat, etc.

3rd radiator is standard on tips, owing to the transmission cooling needs.

I agree, add the third radiator if you want, but a 996 shouldn't need one in San Diego. I'd have the car checked out.

Thanks for that wake-up Chad

Now I am on my 3rd cup of joe and reading for the day.

Moving on to better topics, I get the car back Friday from getting the RoWM030 installed and then I will install the new supercup lip we talked about. She is just about complete. Wait a second, who am I kidding? I will find something else to do one that car from here to the end of time.

Make it stop...............
