What's your temp guage under normal driving?

Mine has sat at 180-190 lately and it's been an average of 75 d. .......

What do you think? And how do you know if that little fan in the deck is working?

The fan on the trunk should never come on. It only does so if the temperature sensor for the engine compartment gets higher than something like 180 degrees. (I have forgotten the exact temp). You would have to be sitting in some hot hot sun to get it to come on. Mine has never turned on except when I went to test it because I thought it was broken. The normal coolant temp should read between 190 - 200 degrees. That's about just touching the left side of the "0" on the gauge.

the indicator on my 996 c2 sits exactly between the right side of the 8 and the left side of 0. example...right where I put the "." in 180 .... 18.0. When I drive up to the mountains with a 20-30 mile up grade I might hit just to the right of the 0 in 180 may be slightly higher but not by much...

My fan has come on a few times but only when it has been very hot outside and I may be idling in traffic...

Thank you!

The center cooler will drop it down a bit when driving it hard getting close to the slash in 100+ degrees it will be to the right of the 0 . Also cleaning the radiators often is helpful

Eli? You are talking about the engine compartment fan and not the radiator fan...correct? That is the fan I referred to.

The engine compartment fan pulls air into the compartment and is controlled by a temperature sensitive switch. The fan is switched on when the car is running when the engine compartment temperature is greater than 176 degrees F or the coolant temperature is greater than 216 degrees F, which ever happens first. When the car is turned off after running and the engine compartment temperature is more than 140 degrees F, the DME control module remains in readiness mode for something like 20 minutes after turning off the ignition. While in this mode, the module retrieves the temperature from the engine compartment every 10 seconds or so. If the engine compartment temperature goes above 185 degrees F, the engine compartment fan is switched on for 20 seconds. If the temperature remains above 185 degrees F after running time, the fan remains on for a another 30 seconds, etc. After drives in the summer under stop and go conditions when the temp gets rather warm I have had my engine fan run for a good 2-3 minutes after parking in my garage.
