Default Where to Buy New Lug Nuts?

I just took delivery of a '01 996 TT. Car is a blast.

I would like to freshen up a few of the "worn" parts. I have the factory wheels for 2001 TT and the lug nuts look pretty lousy. Are they plastic covers? Where can I buy replacements? Could not find them on the tire rack site and would like to avoid the dealer as I paid over $300 for an extra key yesterday! Ouch. TIA.

I would try GPRparts.com or Departstop.com. Both have VERY good pricing.

New ones cost something like $5 each from Porsche. I just bought 4 of them to replace the locking ones.

Try Mid America Motorworks (formerly Tweeks) www.mamotorworks.com they have lug nuts by the score and the little plastic caps...

I bought the plastic covers (black) and I'm not sure I like the look, although it is better than dirty beatup lug bolt heads. Had to buy 4 new bolts because they're not compatible with the locks. Attachment and removal can be a pain - remember to remove them before service/track events!

I've read some people just clean the bolts up and spray the heads silver. Makes more sense to me if I did it again.

Cool

Just FYI, there's a 04 TSB that authorizes the lightweight lugnuts which are 14.5mm(head lenght measurement) vise the old 16.5mm. The part nos is 996-361-203-02. TSB 3/04, 4407, "This results in a weight reduction in un-sprung mass".

Sorry, the TSB affected cars though are just 996/996C4/ and 996 GT3, NOT the TT.

Now I'm confused. Do I need new lug nuts or simply covers? I'll have to look closely at the wheel and remove one to determine exactly what I have.

Is this what I need or new bolts?

The stock rear wheels have studs and lug nuts. The front have lug bolts. I don't believe lug covers/caps are std equipment on a TT/C4S, or any porsche. Although, it would be cheaper to just cover your stock bolts/nuts with covers.

Agree they look nasty, I painted mine 3 days after I got the car, yes they will chip on th edges when the wheels are removed but a Al paint looks fine, beter than a cap that I thinks looks worse, easy fix - cheap too.

Adam, show us a picture of what it is you want to replace.

The key for the 4 locking wheel bolts do not cost $300. This is my 4 locking wheel bolts and the key. They are no longer on my car. They were replace by the standard wheel bolts. One of the 4 standard wheel bolts I bought is at the bottom of the picture. Looked at my invoice and it was $5.89 each.

Your car does not have lug nuts. The head of the wheel bolts are known to rust.
