Thinking of switching insurance ...
For the past few months, I've been thinking of switching insurance companies. I'm currently using Geico, and have been for the last 9 years, and have never needed their 'services' and my record is spotless. (knock on wood 2x) After reading these threads, https://rennlist.com/forums/porsche-supercars-carrera-gt-918-960/139450-cgt-accident-after-10-minutes-of-taking-delivery.html and https://rennlist.com/forums/porsche-supercars-carrera-gt-918-960/175467-the-lightly-hit-er-150k-repair-cgt-is-4-sale.html - I am more than a little concerned about what might happen if I ever did need my insurance company to step up for me. Not that I have a CGT but I really like my car and want to avoid, as much as possible, getting screwed like this guy apparently was. I picked Geico ages back because they were cheap but I lack confidence in their customer service should I need it. (Plus - they don't cover any type of DE while I understand some others might depending upon circumstances)
I figure now is the best time to look for other companies while my record is still perfect. Any suggestions? I think that insurance companies are just licensed extortionists but surely some are less evil than the others? Maybe slightly less anti-driver than the others? Anyone actually like their company & willing to recommend it to a fellow Rennlister?

ps - anyone know why that CGT driver had to cover the gap when the Suburban driver didn't cover the cost when their insurance co. didn't?

State Farm for all coverage. I pay about $800/yr for full coverage and $500.000/$500,000 liability. That's with 2 teenage drivers in the family. 2 houses and 5 cars and a couple of boats covered. $1,000,000 umbrella which covers evrything and the kids is about $500/year

My college roommate and good friend works for PLI insurance Brokerage, a division of Chubb. They seem to do a very good job finding insurance that is good, and does not pull the same BS that GEICO does. Actual Chubb insurance for me was just off the charts but they found insurance that was actually LESS than GEICO. I ended up with Travelers and they have been fine, I even made a claim and I have not been dropped nor have my rates gone up! You can either look them up of I can email you the PLI info. My friend is actually their yacht specialist, but is a Rennlist member and huge car guy, so I am sure he would help.

Let me make sure i understand this...
$800 a year for 5 cars? with full coverage? and one is a porsche?
Then top that off with 2 houses and 2 boats, a mill umbrella for another $500 a year...?
I dont want to call BS... cause its rude.. but as an example.. I have a perfect record, married, in a house etc.. 4 Cars and only two with full coverage costs me $2700 a year.. I do realize im in Colorado which I think is one of the more costly car insurance states, but gosh yours sounds too good to be true. My insurer is USAA..

Since the rates that GEICO charges me are very reasonable and their service is great, I wouldn't consider changing companies even for a lower insurance prmium.

fast1 - I'm glad to hear that Geico has been good to you. But I can't help but wonder if you're the exception. Maybe they just like you a lot I was actually looking to spend more money hoping to ensure that there would be less chance of a problem or issue down the road.
I've heard good things about State Farm and wondered if anyone would speak up on their behalf (thanks chads996 & 1999porsche911 for confirming). Anyone use progressive or liberty mutual?

After 12 years with State Farm they jacked my rates 30% and the only accident was me getting rearended in 1998.
Then I went to AIG great rates, then after 4 years they jacked my rates, although I did just receive a $106 refund check from them for overcharging.
Now I am with Geico, 2 cars full coverage, single, clean record, Charlotte NC, $1194 year. But I'm sure they will jack me also, this is how they eventually all get their money.

I've been a Geico policyholder for over 20 years and have had nothing but positive experiences. Last year I had a full glass claim on my 996 and it was handled with one phone call and the windshield replaced with Porsche glass. I've also had some parking lot damage that were handled without problems. Maybe 5 years ago I skidded on some ice in my 300ZX and did a few thousand dollars damage. They covered it and I had a small surcharge that was supposed to be in effect for three years but they discontinued it after two.
Fast1: I'd be interested in know what your premium is. My car, a 2002 996 cab the only one on my Geico policy, is registered in Suffolk County, NY. I just got my bill for the next 6 mos, $1,070, $500/300 coverage, collision, comprehensive, full glass and $500 deductible.

Speed I'm in Nassau County w/geico same coverage as you except 300k single limit on liability w/ um/sum coverage to match picked up a 1 mil umbrella for like 250 ay ear for any excess. i pay about the same as u 1025 every 6 months. As an attorney who deals with insurance carriers on a daily basis i can say Gieco, Amica, Chubb, are much better then State Farm and I wouldn't go near Allstate or Tristate.

Check Progressive...they tend to be very competitive on rates and I haven't had a problem with them.
In general, talk to a number of companies...the industry is price competitive and negotiating helps. get a quote and start shopping!

Have you considered lowering your liability from $500K to $300K and then adding a $1M umbrella coverage? You may get more liability protection for about the same yearly premium.

That's just for the Porsche. Use your head.

I have State Farm now and have had no problems, but I've never had a claim. I've been transferred quite a bit over the past 20 years. If you can get insurance from the Farm Bureau, they are the best company I've had. I had two teenagers, boy and girl. The girl had 3 wrecks, 2 tickets, boys record was clean. Farm Bureau paid everything right away and never did go up on the policy. After the third wreck the agent advised me to write a separate policy for her, by now 18, and keep her out of my cars. I took his advice. I moved back to GA, so I couldn't get them here. I had to pay almost double for the same coverage at State Farm.
In TN, anyone can get Farm Bureau. In Ga and FL,you have to actually prove farm income or losss on your tax return. don't know how they are in NC, but I would definitely check them out.
