Has anyone used a trickler charge or Battery Tender http://www.batterytender.com/? I am storing my P-car for the winter and was wondering if these two listed items are needed?

Battery tender, much smarter. The P models are great for the money (<$90). We split our time between two homes and I always leave two cars on tenders for months. They do the job.

You don't need one, but its a good idea. A batter maintainer/tender is a better choice as it will only charge when needed. Extended time on a trickle charger can kill the battery by cooking the fluid. I use the Porsche made unit.

Here's another question for you guys. I have a friend who keeps his 996 in an underground parking garage with no access to an outlet. SInce he drives the car once every week or two, his battery always dies. Is there a trickly battery pack that he can use to keep his topped up and when he drives his car, he can plug this pack into an outlet at home and rechagre it for the next week while it's in storage?
Thanks,
Thanks,

I read somewhere that there are gases that are emitted when the battery is being charged/maintained. Is there a problem with leaving the car in the garage with a cover on for several months at a time in this situation?

I don't have access to power in my winter storage location. Any thoughts on purchasing a rechargeable inverter and leaving it inside my car with my Porsche battery maintainer plugged in???

If his battery is dead after on a week or two, them there is a problem with the battery. My car sits for 4 - 6 weeks at a time in the winter and fires right up without any maintenance of the battery. This is with the alarm set and key out. Might be time for him to invest in a new battery or find what is draining the battery in an extremely short period of time.
