Serious knocking/pinging/pre-detonation when accelerating after every shift

All of a sudden this has happened. Immediately when I give it gas after every shift there is a 1-2 second engine knock, ping....whatever you want to refer to it as, but all I know is that it is NOT a good sound.
I thought our cars had knock sensors that instantly corrected and stopped this.
Also for the past month every cold start the car barely idles at 200 rpm's or so and if I touch the gas pedal even very lightly the engines stalls.
Just so you all know I use 93 octane from same station. Mobil 1 0W-40 clean and right at the mark. 8700 miles on odometer. At 7000 miles installed a Fabspeed cold air intake with BMC filter. There was no sign of oil or over oiling present on the filter.
Thanks everyone

I am in Charlotte. How can I check for vaccum leak...or does dealer do this?
And I have no CEL illuminated, also I do not remember hearing and pinging or acceleration knocking right after install of Fabspeed BUT I have had cold start problems pretty much from the beginning of installing the cold air kit.

Maybe you got a tank of bad gas (wrong octane) - it's not beyond the realm of possibility that a fuel delivery got put into the wrong tank.
I'd take the car to a dealer immediately.

I have been told time and time again that most 996 engines develop this sound once they hit about 15,000 KMs. Apparently, it's all thr Variocam gearing and hydraulics causing the timing chains to chatter. It does sound exactly like detonation. I have spoken to two dealers about this and have been told this by both of them. It is normal and some engines do it more than others.

I would get rid of that airbox...and either drain your gas, or fill it up with a different brand of gas. I use Chevron out west...more expensive, but it's good gas. The best we get out here is 91, so go with some high grade and see if that works. I think you got bad gas.
