Question x51 power pkg.

Does anyone have the x51 on a 3.4L?
Did you install it or did the dealer?
How about on a 3.6L?
I'm curious as to how many are out there and what year car you have .

Well, all of use in the 40th Anniv 911 "roll call" have the X51 since it is a standard feature on that car. It is sweet!

I know there's a powerkit for the 3.4 but it's not the x51. It'll bring hp up to 320-325. It's expensive I believe like the x51. Someone more knowledgeable can chime in here : ). Regards. Mike

There is a powerkit for 3.4L 996's but it was not offered in the US. Check out the following post from RennTech.org: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=2780

Cheers,

I have a 3.6L X51 in my 99. It's a fun package. Imagine a very light, very fast 40th anniversary.

I think if you buy the car and get X51 with it as an option, it might be worth it. But if you already have the car and are thinking about getting the power upgrade it's not worth it. Too much $$ for too little Power.

You'd be better of going the Supercharger route if you really want more power.

If you want to toss reliability out the window, sure.
Yes, a supercharger will bang out more power per dollar. But that is a BIG drop in reliability, and warranty coverage as well.

We race this car and a super charger is not legal for the class.
Besides I own a performance shop so I am doing the install myself.
And I got a hell of a deal on the kit $5000.
Since this a factory option it is legal for the class.
I am almost done with the install just a day or to more!
The weather here in Florida has not been so great lately, but I was lucky compared to central and south Florida.

Please tell us your findings after the upgrade is complete.

Are you racing in PCA C stock? If so, I'm not sure it's legal to run the powerkit on the 3.4L. I could be wrong but I don't think it was ever an option in the US. The X51 on a 3.6L was but I think the 3.4L powerkit was ROW only. I know it's a weird anomaly but so is the fact that you can run a 993 with a 3.8L RS motor in C at 2700+ lbs but if you have a 3.6L you have to run at 3000. Go figure.

You might want to check before you spend a bunch of cash.

"I thought 99s had the 3.4?"

PCA club racing rules currently allow you to "update" your car. I have updated my 99 996 to 04 40th anniversary specs. The 40th is obviously the most potent of the standard 996s. It would have been great if they had put bigger brakes on it.
