I
19" 997 Turbo wheels on a 996
have 19's on my 996 and I don't think they look odd at all. Just my opinion, but I can go either way on this one. My winter wheels are the standard 18s.

Three Wheelin'
Only thing I've noticed lately is that tire availability for the 18" wheel is not as common as a 19 which on my C4 means you can't just mix and switch because of diameter.
When I replaced the worn out Michelins they were unavailable so I switched to Continentals. (I needed a better wet weather tire for daily driving.. ) Still took a week to get the Conti's

Drifting
Seems like the OP is primarily interested in hearing about the differences in ride quality with 18" wheels versus the 19" he has now

how close were the inside of the lobster fork wheels to your control arm and inner fender. I just took a peek at my current 19s and it’s tight and those are ET52.

Stock rear Lobsters are 19x11 et67. When the car is in the air, the inside of the wheel will hit the inner control arm. It does not rub when on the ground. It also wouldn’t hit the outside lip or inner fender. Run a 295/30 if concerned.

Thanks! I think I’m going to pull the trigger on a set selling for $850.
