996 wheels
I’m currently running 19” Avant Gardes on my 996. I’m considering buying a set of Lobster Forks to replace but I’m also considering if I should go back to an 18” wheel? The car came with the 19s already installed, so I don’t know any better. What I do know is that the ride is a little rough. I’m a little lower than stock with H&R lowering springs. Any advice would be appreciated.

On the 996, everything gets better when using 18" wheels when compared to 19".

18" leaves to much wheel well exposed (on stock suspension) but you mentioned you're already lowered so I'm sure it would look good. I myself like the look of 19" on the 996.

I'm a little confused by that statement. I've not experimented with different wheel sizes on the 996, but generally the outside tire diameter usually stays the same when going plus 1 and plus 2 (using progressively lower profile tires as you go up in wheel diameter).

Kind of hard to see in these photos but this is my 996 C4 with 19" 997 wheels (top photo) and the stock 18" in the bottom photo. You can see how the wheel itself fills the wheel well gap so much better on OEM suspension.

I personally don't think the oversized look on the 19's looks good with older cars like the 996 -- but then again I've generally preferred smaller wheels (loaner cars with the "sport package" larger wheels always feel rough to me, but the Macan has been an exception). Can't comment on the 996, because I've only had 17's. Seems like many believe 18's are the sweet spot for the 996.

Thanks -- I get it now. The black from the tire kind of gets lost in the black from the open wheel well, so the much more prominent wheel with larger silver area makes it look more filled out.

It’s probably the tire sizes written backwards.
185/30/18
175/35/18
Im also guessing that he meant to write “285” and “275”, because tires that skinny don’t belong on a 996. I don’t think such tires exist, either…
