Default How would you fix this?

How would you guys solve this? I have rennline adjustable motor mounts. Problem is that the square torque nut for the mount is smaller than the carrier. Thus, they feel loose. The motor moves a half inch or so, and it's not good. The carrier is alloy, so I cannot weld that at the moment. Outside of getting a new carrier and sleeving it to solve the overarching problem, I'm not sure how to go about this.

Thoughts?

What do you mean "adjustable"? How are they adjustable? I would call Rennline for a solution, or contact them on the website.

Once the nut is tightened to the specified torque it will no longer matter that the square on the engine mount is slightly smaller than the square in the engine carrier.
So the solution is to torque it to spec and feel for the torque to rise steadily when you turn the nut till reaching the final value.

Contacting rennline is a good suggestion.

Tighten square nuts REALLY tight. Clock the square nuts to align with the square holes in the engine carrier. Install as usual.

Agreed, not really adjustable perse. They have 3 different bushings you can swap out depending on what stiffness you want. But, removal of mounts is required to do so. No biggie.

Yes, have done that. It is a strange issue. I will contact them for sure.

Yes, agreed. I plan to this week.

Yes, but, I went through a set of OEM before quite quickly after my motor swap. These are much stiffer, for obvious reasons. I will say, if you don't want to feel every vibration, leave the factory ones there.

If I remember correctly, Jake, our resident 996 guru, highly recommends not using semi-solid engine mounts due to the vibrations that throw off the engine tuning (I think the anti-knock sensors). You actually lose engine performance because the DME "de-tunes" the engine to protect it. OE mounts are the way to go...

Formerly resident 996 guru, but, yes. They have dyno proof of hardened motor mounts causing the DME to pull timing. On youtube. But folks will keep putting them in anyway.
