Is it possible to swap the stock/standard decklid from a 996.1 C2 with the decklid from a 996 C4S (the one with the reflector)?
I think it would greatly boost the aesthetics of an already beautiful vehicle.
Do you know if the reflector strip itself is at least the right length/height and shape? I've always thought about making a decklid to house the strip, that's totally doable, but making the strip itself is harder to 100% match the factory taillights' optical qualities.
It’s most likely a little wider than the narrow body deck lid. You’d therefore be able to shorten/modify it to fit. The question in my mind is whether there is an indentation on the C4S deck lid for it to sit in so it’s flush with the surface surrounding it. If that’s the case, you’d also have to modify the narrow body deck lid to accomodate the reflector strip. While it’s certainly not impossible, it seems like an awful lot of work, that if not done really well and precisely (ie: expensive! Unless you’ve got some serious auto body chops) could be fugly…
If I ever come across a C4S in the wild, I'll have to pull out my tape measure...LOL
The C4S reflector is different in size to the narrow body cars and it is made to be mounted flush with deck lid. The C4S deck lids have a recessed section for the reflector to sit. (see picture)
You can always purchase a aftermarket sticker to mimics the look of the C4S. Here's the link...
The C4S decklid is slightly longer and slightly more narrow than the C2/C4. From other pictures I have seen on the internet, they are *sort of* interchangeable, but it looks really bad and it can cause the retractable spoiler to have issues. The reflector from the C4S doesn't really pair up that well with the C2/C4 taillights either, so you would realistically make a custom reflector too.
It really is a shame that nobody has made a good AM solution for adding a reflector to the narrow body cars.
one has to get really close to a fake Rolex to tell it’s a fake. …this strip from a mile away is terrible looking…even worse close up…maybe on a Honda Civic drift car…not a P-car. Enjoy the narrow body lineage…all my 911s always S cars or I’d own one.
If anybody has a cracked, broken C4S center reflector, I'd be interested buying it. I have a spare Turbo decklid and the lower section of a C4S decklid that I'd like to try mating together. A defective reflector would be perfect for mocking up and doing the fiberglass work without fear of damaging the reflector. Plus, I don't want to spend $800 on a new reflector for a project that might be a failure. TIA

What, you don't like three inch wide red duct tape on the back of a Porsche?
