Yea, and I bet their main seals are a lot tighter!

Update--the intermediate shaft seal was also leaking so they replaced it.

Plus both doors window lift mechanisms replaced due to the famous streak marks on the windows (I've had this in all 3 of my 996 Carreras).

Oh--and the amplifier, head unit and CD changer are being replaced today due to various issues.

Poursha,

You had the window lift mechanisms replaced due to the streaks on the windows? I have this on both windows. Do you know if there is a TSB on this, or did you just mention it and they covered it under warranty?

It's covered under warranty (but only if performed in conjunction with RMS and intermediate shaft seal leaks... ).

Don't know if there's a TSB, but the dealers all seem very familiar with this issue--it seems like just about every Boxster loaner I get also has it.

I thought the window thing was a "feature". You mean the "greasy circle smear" is something that can be fixed? ......

Or do you mean the single line smear down the window?

Depending on how "advanced" the problem is, it could show up as a greasy circle at the top of the glass (early stage) or a vertical grease smear on the entire window (or 2 if both pads dirty) in the advanced stage.

ditto to both clubs What next?!

at first I kept saying to myself, when I did I use my thumb to shut the door THERE!?!? It looked like a greasy thumb print each time...well you guys solved that one for me.

Is there a TSB or anything or will the dealer know what I am talking about?

I just spoke to my dealer about it. He didn't recommend cleaning the window regulator. He said that they could clean off the excess grease, but then I run the risk of having the regulator wear out prematurely due to insufficient lubrication.

Based on my experience at 3 different dealers, I'd have to say your dealer is in the minority. The dealers I've been to all keep these parts in stock because they replace them on a regular basis. If there's enough grease on the pads to smear the windows, that's not normal.
