Default Does anyone recognize this bolt?

I just bought a 2000 996 C4 Cabriolet this week. While inspecting the engine compartment I found this bolt (photo) in the rear area of the engine compartment. Can anyone tell me where it goes?

That would be your air cleaner hold-down bolt, you must have an aftermarket air cleaner installed...

That's correct. The car has the Evolution V-Flow filter. Mystery solved. Thanks Dr. h.c. Porschetech3!

You have this https://www.evoms.com/product_p/intkvffltr.htm
Since that is really a "hot engine compartment air intake", it is not an upgrade and may cause engine problems. Over time it has been determined the best air intake for our cars is the OEM style air filter box with cold air intake. Our cars were tuned to the original air intake.

That's not a badly designed unit. Unlike the junk from some other vendors, it pulls air down from the same spot as the stock intake, and it keeps the MAF sensor in the same spot as the stock intake. It probably only adds noise and not power, but it's not horrible. Use a dry filter on it, not one of those oiled messy things, and it shouldn't do any harm.

That said, yeah, if you want to spend money on an intake, get a factory 997.1 3.8 intake. They improve the looks at least!
