I recently bought a 996 C4. The Previous Owner had the engine replaced about 5k ago. The car as 102k on it. Drove the car and it ran great. Pre purchase was clear on a couple issues I can managed.
As usual there are surprises. The mechanic seemed to have lost track of several things when he did the engine swap. A hose clamp floating on a hose, a bracket not bolted down....and the hear shields for the coil packs are missing!
This is one I cant seem to figure out.
The part number says its a air temp sensor for the "air box". Its on the passenger side and the wires come out of the wiring loom right on top of the fuel rail. It was hanging down on the side of the cam cover.
The parts catalogue say it has an associated grommet.
I can not for the life of me figure out where it plugs in!
According to the PET the probe points down, wire connector is on top. Insert thr probe into the rubber grommet, lube the grommet wit5h a little soapy water and push it into the slot. It is difficult to push in, the lube helps a lot.
+1 on getting the coil shields.

thanks for the direction note, when I got my car it was also laying loose, I could not get it to go in pointed down due to the wire length but after the engine replacement is pointed down.. I think it got mis routed at some point before I got it..
