Best Exhaust Tips?
The tips on my C4 are looking kind of crusty. i'd like to upgrade just for esthetics. i'm not too sure which tips to go with. Fabspeed has some 4.5" tips on their site at $125 a piece which seems reasonable. I also like the large Factory tips that are arched on top and have a straight line on the bottom. Not too sure where to get them. I did several searches and didn't come up with many choices. Any recommendations on which tips you all think look the best and will STAY looking good for a long time would be appreciated.
I love that video on the fabspeed site with the 996 and the muffler by pass pipes. I think it might be a bit too aggressive for my wife. I'm trying to convince her but it looks like there's no winning that battle. Any of you know if there is any gain or loss in power from the bypass pipes? Also my C4 is a 99' so will that set up be louder or quieter on my 99' vs. the 2002 on the video? Thanks.

There have been several threads on this topic. The consensus is that it is too loud to have it on. I also considered it once but after talking to people who have owned them , i decided not to get one.
BTW, I have the factory oval tip and like it alot.

A certain amount of back pressure is required for optimum performance. So, aside from the too-loud noise, the bypass pipes may actually make you LOSE some power, particularly at the mid-range.

Thanks guys. You confirmed it. They sound good on the video but probably not good for every day. And I surely don't want to lose anything in the mid range.

Uber, nice looking factory tips...
1. Are those the Tequipment tips for pre MY02 cars?
2. What type of exhaust are you running with those tips? PSE (older vs. newer), stock, other?
3. Do your tips tarnish?
I recently swapped my Fabspeeds out for PSE and the large oval Fab tips (which are very similar to your tips) don't fit the newer version of PSE!
These seem to be the only factory Tequipment tips available for MY02 and on (PSE included):
996 sport exhaust tips
TIA

Island Boy, the tips you are reffering to that have the flat bottom are 02+ and will not fit your 99. The 99-01 tips are totally oval like ubergeek's. From the dealership run about 800 for the pair, got mine on eBay for about 425. Might want to try Suncoast in Portland, OR since they sell at dealer cost +15%.

Thanks for all of the replys guys. I'll post pics once I make up my mind and get them installed. I'm kind of bummed that I can't have the tips below. I guess you always want what you can't have. If by chance anyone knows of someone who makes tips that look like the ones on the Muff below that will fit my late 99' C4 (basically a 00') please let me know. I think I'm gonna go for the factory BIG ovals if I can't find the ones below for my C4.
