Machine Shops SoCal
Hi,
I'm in the process of rebuilding my m96 3.4 and looking for machine shops in the area that are familiar w/ the m96 to get the heads worked on as well as helping w/ crank magnafluxing ect. I've spoken to a few machine shops and while they have worked on Porsche motors- they don't seem to have any specific knowledge or have mostly worked on air-cooled motors. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thank you!

Thanks dporto - I checked out their shop when I was getting an alignment next door - it was like a cars and coffee in their parking lot - amazing to behold.
I'm learning from my search that asking shops seems to be a negative experience. They seem to want to keep their resources secret which is kinda a bummer - I totally get engine building is an art as well as what they do being proprietary knowledge - and I'm not looking to take away or replicate what they are doing - coming from VW's and having rebuilt a bunch of water-cooled vw motors I thought it'd be a fun challenge getting into these motors. Internet and published articles only go so far and I'd love to get some resources under my belt of local people who have worked on these motors and actually talk to them vs shipping it out or buying a used / rebuilt motor.

Try to reach Dwain at his Willow Springs racing ranch 917 836 9749. If you reach him tell him his old friend Peter (from the gym) recommended him. His shop in Laguna Hills uses top notch machine shops. Wish you well..
