Default Coolant leak help

Hey everyone!

Came home from work yesterday and noticed a few drips of coolant under the engine. They are from the front left area between the trans and engine. It is coming from above. Waterpump is only a year old and dry, nothing in the oil, coolant tank is full, no warning lights, temperature is great, the drips only amounted to maybe three tablespoons.

I have not got it up on a rack, or the dealer yet.

Thinking aos lines????

Could be the plastic expansion tank or one of the hoses connected to it. Drips can run along various hoses and drip down slightly away from the source.

Have a good look in/around/behind your coolant expansion tank with a small mirror if you can. Cracks can form in the plastic tank and leak under high heat & pressure.

And when mine puked coolant, I changed the tank. The crack was not visible. I had to pressurize it to 20PSI to see a leak. It puked once. After puking, drove it home 40 minutes and didn't puke again. But there was a crack.

I second the tank. I replaced my 120k unit last fall, solved that leak. They leak when hot...expansion.

My tank gave out at 62k, also leaked while hot - although the leaks from that were obviously on the left side, maybe not quite as far up as these may be. I was able to spot some general moisture just with my phone's flashlight around the lowest parts of the tank, where it had been collecting as it seeped out, without much trouble. I tend to stick my phone in tight corners and take photos with the flash on to get some weird angles. In hindsight, the tank was horribly yellowed and I could've seen it coming.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I will be getting it on a rack first of next week.
Another clue is that it does not leak/drip unless it is up to temperature, running or not.

Yes, I had the same issue even though I had replaced the tank a few months earlier; purchasing a "Porsche" part seemed to fix the issue.....although I would rather have a better solution than the fantastic plastic tank. However, we can all moan and growl about various maladies of the 996, in comparison, after reviewing this Car Wizard episode, we are so fortunate that despite all, we are able to accomplish essential maintenance and fault finding without the drama of the attached link from the Car Wizard.....I sometimes need to remind myself to stop the self-exculpation about the 996.......even removing our motors can also be done without all these issues.

Well my wife’s car is a CX9. I will not be able to sleep.

The video highlights all the reasons I dislike modern cars.
