Hello all,
have a check engine light on in my 2002 C4. Car seems to be running fine. checked with 2 different scanners, with the same result - no codes!
Any thoughts are appreciated and thanks.

Disconnect the battery for thirty minutes to clear the ECU. Then reconnect the battery and do an e-gas calibration cycle. Then drive and see what shows up. Do you know anyone with Durametric?

I would use a third scanner, preferably a high quality one...
I have been working in Dealerships since 1974 and have Specialized in Drivability/Computer Engine Management since it was released in the early 80's....I have NEVER seen a CEL that didn't have an associated Code stored....( because that's why they illuminate )
Caveat ::..I suppose it is possible to have a crossed wiring that would illuminate the little light that was totally separated from the Engine Management Computer..but I have never seen such a thing..

+1 most generic code scanners only read the Federally mandated OBDII codes, they seldom display the Manufacturer specific ones without special coding.
(For example the Soft top fail codes... )

If your living with a 996, the Durametric or similar (having a senior moment on the other brand folks like) is kind of a must have. These throw codes at the darnedest things often simple..
Especially when your trying to get through smog.. Mine has a smog-check-station-detector option.. If I drive towards the station all the check engine lights come on when I drive away they go out.. <lol lol>![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

I use Foxwell 530. Is easy to use and has a lot of functionality. Reads all codes annd parameters except cam deviations on 2002 models.

Awesome ! Thanks everyone. I will look into the Durametric and Foxwell. It was interesting that someone mentioned "soft top fail codes" as I did just replace the convertible top actuators!!
Everything seems to be working fine with the top but that may be the culprit.
Thanks again

FYI, I bought a Foxwell 530 and discovered it couldn't read cam deviations, so I sent it back, then reached out to Foxwell to see which our their units would. Upon their recommendation, I bought a 710. Works like a charm!
