Default What's the rarest 996 Factory accessory!?

1 - the sill umbrella
2- the cabriolet roof transport system
3 - the valet key
4 - you missed one!

I have been trolling these forums, BAT , facebook pages and after 3 years I have decided that these are the 3 hardest items to find when buying a car .... I have not included the 40AE luggage set as they only apply to 40AE owners.

Don't forget about the gloves and drop cloth...

Not necessarily rare but you don't usually see some of this stuff being sold with cars on the market today.

Oil bag and the case that holds the stereo faceplate.

First aid kit and warning triangle. The little white box under the warning triangle on the left is a Porsche roadside safety vest.

Fire extinguisher. The little black dots between the seat and door sill are foam from the vents. I recently used the air conditioning for the first time since I bought the car 5 years ago.

Original window sticker.

"Welcome aboard" letter and VHS tape.

Default very nice additions!

As far as the 3.4 X51 is concerned, this is the 3rd one i hear of. I know that switchcars speaks of one in his podacst, porschecooled mentions one in Melbourne, Australia.
So rare indeed.

My previous car had the gloves and the poncho but not the triangle etc.

I have struggled to put together the jack and tool box and even located the appropriate air pump. I was not aware of the faceplate cover.
The oil pouch appears regularly on ebay but I was unsure it was a part of the original fit out.

I tried to use my "factory plastic gloves" the other day for a quick road side repair, and there was no "glove" to in, Just 8 pieces of flat clear plastic cut out in the shape of a hand...there was no "glove" ..Better check yours before you "need" them..( factory defect ) ..lol

Yes I would say the 3.4 x51 was the rarest option ..

Ahh, poncho. That makes more sense. I wasn't sure about the oil bag either but BMW has had them since at least the early '80s so I figured Porsche probably did too.

lol, good to know. Mine are just there for originality. I have some non-Porsche gloves in there to use if I ever need any.

Fun to see the VHS video and accessories. Are these dealer accessories for the US market? Road side safety wests and plastic gloves etc does not seem like things provided for new car buyers in Europe at the time.

I don't really follow stereo threads anymore so I don't know if this has ever been mentioned.
It's the 'High Performance Audio System' and it's for cars with the M490 'Hi Fi' Sound package. It comes with door pods that replace the single 5.25" woofer with dual 6" woofers.
Standard 5.25" woofer on the left.

A 400 watt amp that replaces the standard M490 amp. It's mostly PnP in the same location in the frunk.

And front speakers.

I never got around to installling mine because the door cards have to be modified and I want to keep mine stock. The plan was to pick up a set of used door cards to cut into and leave the originals unmolested.

Default Never ever

Now that’s an option that I have never ever seen before and also so far ahead of its time with Joel speakers. Talk about rare and exclusive!
