Mine would be going on a stock 996.1 airbox, not the 3.8.
I bought a 1.5" and 1.75" plug and I think I used the 1.75".

Why doesn't anyone go the extra step and remove the resonator box in the filter box assembly? Wouldn't that give more volume in the filter box and improve flow?

They do, that’s part of the mod. I did as well. I don’t think it improves airflow, or at least, this area of design has enough airflow already that adding more does nothing to improve power.

Default Did it-like it

Found the right size plug, stuck it in there and the engine sounds, to my ear, better. Could be that I can hear it better, so I’m getting more communication, but it also feels stronger at the low end of the power curve. Butt dyno says 3-5 hp😜

This poll convinced me to give this mod a try, and I have to say that I love it and won't ever switch it back. It is totally benign and silent in normal driving and the only time it comes into play is when you meaningfully put your foot into it, which is exactly what I wanted. When your foot is in it, it sounds amazing without being too loud -- I wouldn't want it any louder or quieter.

The exhaust equivalent of the orange cap mod is Gundo/Fister.

I just tried it, drove it to and above 4K and decided to put it back. I already have Fister exhaust (gondo hack) so I didn't hear anything that noticeable. (I have a 99 3.4 bored to 3.6 w a 997 3.6 airbox.) IPD plenum awaiting install.

I had mine open today and verified it's the 1-3/4" marine plug for the 3.6. (996.2 C4S).
